My well-meaning mother in law chose the fucking funeral of her sister to ask her nephew (the deceased's son) when he's going to get a girlfriend. You can be close to someone and still bumble through interpreting their thoughts and feelings, however obviously inappropriate something may seem to an outsider.

2024-07-26 16:17:19 +0000 UTCDuane's great with strangers and he's even been very insightful and wise with Sette on occasion, but Lemuel? He just doesn't know what to say. He's actually going to try it again here in a few pages and you'll see how Lemuel masterfully shuts it down and just destroys him. Lemuel doesn't WANT to be helped. He thinks he's fine. He thinks he knows exactly what to do. Others easily think of Rector Adelier as the wise and powerful veteran, father, accomplished wright, son of Ssael and true patriot. But Lemuel knows him as a beloved, but bumbling, know-nothing, self-deluded, moral coward. You can't counsel someone who doesn't respect you in that way.

Even if he fails with Lem - boy might just be too far gone - he still should probably be at least recognise just how bad situation is.
