She used it to try to predict the future - to predict this very moment! It convinced her that Sette WOULD cooperate and do what she said! But apparently that was not the context of that scrap of memory at all! But for something like what happens on the newst page, using a memory as a weapon? You'd need the whole memory. Now that Sette has removed that Silver monster from the Nevergreen from her mind, she's lost it. She no longer has any idea what happened at the Nevergreen. She's forgotten it forever.

A lot of readers solve this by reading communally in Discord where it's easier to have someone else remind you of past events. But your questions have all been answered by the comic. Ilganyag wants to undo the eternal memories of this world - Sette has stopped her, so she's damned the dead to scream forever. She has the memories of the Nevergreen silver inside her because she was there at the Nevergreen when it attacked. She has the ability to remove memories from herself. The Nevergreen was where the Silver first showed up, prematurely, and caused a big old mess. Ilganyag mentioned it, and Sette was inspired to use that memory here. Cutter has been aiding Ilganyag in her quest to undo eternal memories. He also wants them undone. Anyway, you're not stupid of course, this is just a complex story, with complex mechanics, that often refers back to itself.

Also, while I don't *like* her, I can't bring myself to hate on Khette. She and OG Jacaranda and all the duplicates that followed got done just as dirty as anyone else. I hope we might learn more about them in the next series/book, especially since I suspect that they and probably all/most of the other sets of Settes & Jacs were born in the north, possibly among the Tains.

Why/how has Sette damned the dead to scream forever? Why does she have silver inside her? How is what she's doing in the last panel not killing her? What does the Nevergreen episode have to do with this? (And honestly, what was Cutter trying to do besides wreak violence?) Either I'm uncommonly stupid or this is extremely complex (or both).

The ramifications tho... but how interesting is it that Sette is the one who demands we humans fix our own mistakes. And in doing so, she brings back the Silver that is *not* piloted by Cutter or Lady I, but piloted by *our own mistakes*. Damn.

2024-09-30 04:04:16 +0000 UTCFixing the mistake - just like creating the mistake did - will change the khert itself, rewriting all the pertinent memories within it. Until that happens, they live in a world with the mistake in place. Everything Ilganyag finds in the khert WILL happen in this current version of the world. So yes, if Ilganyag does not undo the great mistake she wants to undo, the Silver will head north and rampage through Alderode. So she was never lying to Duane. If Duane and Sette had acted in the way she manipulated them to, it would have stopped that future. But now..? It looks set in stone.
