Good morning!
Sometimes when so much seems to be going a bit crazy in the world, something plops down into my lap that redirects me.
So it is with a little gem of a book that I found and started rereading. My friend Anita wrote it about the girls in India that truly helped inspire the start of On Fire Fit. If you have been in my circle for a while (my Lifers!) then you are familiar with Pravaham, a school for poor young women in India who are given life skills and a trade as nurse assistants. If you are new to On Fire Fit (welcome!) then let me get a little more detailed.
The school houses & trains young women who had very little hope of getting out of poverty. They come from backgrounds that seem impossible. However, this school, through donors and support, can offer these girls a chance to change their lives.
Most of them don’t believe in themselves and some have had negative emotions about God due to their circumstances. But, the school reminds them of their true identity and how much they are loved by God. Through the all-encompassing program, they change how they think, feel and live. Not only these girls’ lives are changed, but the ripple effect goes out into the community. The communities are changed as the girls send money back into the villages and their other siblings who can attend higher education themselves. The communities learn health and life skills beyond just the physical necessities they gain.
And those of us who stay connected with Pravaham, see how sharing, whatever provision we are able, has a ripple effect…..not only for the community in India, but in our own expanding hearts as we see what really matters in this short life we’ve been given.
When I look at how much our world (me!) goes off track and gets cluttered in their thinking, the basic stories of these girls overcoming great difficulty through the simplicity of being trained in how to think and how to live better refreshes my soul.
What a blessing it is to know that there is good in this world and we can partner in community with what God is doing….here, there, globally!
