Girl Time: Christy & Brooke

So, you're probably wondering what happened to the illustrations for May.

Well, y'see, these supermodels showed up and wanted to...

Okay, that isn't true. I don't have a good excuse, so I'll spare you the bad ones. Long story short, I just didn't do the work to create the illustrations.

The medium-length story is that sometimes I don't enjoy the business of being a writer. It isn't really difficult or time-consuming in the big scheme of things, but it isn't fun or interesting or even relaxing. In a word, it's work.

Now, writing is work too, and I did quite a bit of that in May. I just didn't do some of the other work that I promised you, like the illustrations.

My original plan was to post the two May illustrations that the artist created and then do six new ones for June, but that just compounds my "problem" (doing work that isn't writing).

My new plan is to post the two May illustrations, do two new ones for June, and find some other way to make it up to you. (Before you rush to write a comment, yes, posting a little quicker is an option.* I thought of that too. Let me look at my buffer and see if I can do it without stressing myself too much.)

Anyway, here's the first illustration for June. It's Christy & Brooke enjoying some quality time in Christy's bedroom.

Collectors, grab the HQ version below.

- Nick

* I'm thinking about posting the next couple of chapters in two parts instead of three, but I can't keep up that pace for long. Writing is a very asymmetric process—it takes me 2-3 weeks to write a chapter. And posting faster than I can write is a losing proposition, for everyone.

I'm also in the "don't sweat the drawings" crowd. I'm here first and foremost for the SC chapters, the real main dish. Anything extra after that is just side salad. Loved the fantasy casting Discord thread. I still hear Ving Rhames in my head whenever I read Glen's dialogue (not his face, just the cadence of his voice). But now I'm gonna hear Wolf Kahler every time I read Joska. "You are not in the position to ask for anything..." :-D

Ooh, Kristen Bell... I hadn't thought of her. She's cute as a button, all right. Good call!

Hey Nick - I’m with everyone else. Don’t worry about the illustrations and don’t do anything to the posting schedule that stresses you out. TBH, while I appreciate the work that goes into the illustrations, I prefer the pictures I have of the characters in my mind. BTW, MY famous model for Christy is Kristen Bell, not Reese Witherspoon!

Foreigners with only a broken command of English can read faster than I write. Same with dyslexic schoolchildren and half-blind pensioners. (In my defense, that's true for virtually every mainstream author as well. Writing is just slower than reading. The same with almost everything creative. It's the nature of the beast.)

A lot of people never noticed. I mean, no one's here for the illustrations. Well, not only for them. And since the story installments were still on schedule, not a lot of people noticed that I missed posting pics. (A few people did, and they asked, but not many.)

Thanks. I may take a vacation month in October (I'll be on vacation IRL as well). We'll see.

Thanks, Rick. My buffer is really analogous to my sanity. If my buffer runs low, I get so stressed that my writing suffers. Matter o' fact, a lot of the fun in the story for the past year has been that my buffer is so full and I simply enjoy writing a lot more when that's the case.

Nick Scipio

I can read faster than you can write, but that doesn't mean you have to keep up. If your earlier estimate of 40 chapters, you have less than a year left to finish this opus maximus. This pace is sure a damn sight better than your pace before Patreon.

TBH I never noticed that the May pictures weren't posted, so I didn't miss them. But now that you mention it... :) Don't stress it, I'm sure most of the group are happy to go forward at your pace...

I agree with the group. Quality over quantity publish at a rate that keeps the stress level down. Summer is a time for relaxation and to enjoy family.

Thanks, Dan. And yeah, I know what you mean. I'm still amazed how many fans have been reading since the early days. "What a long, strange trip it's been."

Nick Scipio

Hey mate, keep your buffer for when you need it. We’ll be here.

My name is Rick

Quality over quantity ("we will sell no wine..."). I've had a few reminders recently about how long I've been following the story (and some of the friends I've made along the way), and have been reminded about just how amazing this task is that you've been wandering along. Thank you.

Estamos de acuerdo, amigo. Prefiero que no me estrese tampoco. Sin embargo, siento que les debo algo. A ver. * No te preocupes por tu inglés. Lo hablas mejor que hablo yo el español. ¿Sabes? (E me perdoe mil vezes se você é português.)

Nick Scipio

Hey love the stories. I follow summer camp for quite a long time. I remember times that you stressed out. So, if you are interested in my opinion, don't change the schedule. Leave as it is as I think it will be better for you and us (yeah, I am thinking a little abou myself too :) ). Also the story is heading to the end and altough I am very curious to see the end, at the same time I am begining to feel I little sad about it. * sorry for my broken english. it is not my native language
