Day 1 Retrospect

Whew, what a ride. I wanted to write this up last night before I went to bed but I just couldn't. First, I want to thank everyone for their support and purchasing Meltys Quest.

There was a very scary moment for me yesterday and I really want to put this down in writing so I won't forget it. Yesterday on October 24th, Meltys Quest was released on Steam at 12PM EST, 9AM PST. It was an odd hour, and I seriously thought I might've fucked up releasing the game at such an hour. It was a time period where most of the English speaking world was still at work.

And so Meltys Quest did not make it on Steam's New and Trending list for the first few hours. At least not on USA's New and Trending list. In fact, it didn't even show up on Steam's New Release list. I thought the game was completely dead in the water. However, a few hours after release around the time when Europeans finished dinner and was setting in for some night gaming and East Coast in the US came home from work, activity for the game spiked and Meltys Quest showed up on the New Release and New and Trending list.

So thank you all, for supporting us, and for supporting Meltys Quest. This isn't some special, unique story, and I'm sure everyone who worked in a start-up or their first game had a similar experience, but I worked every single day since August 1st. It wasn't even a 8AM to 8PM job that I had experience doing, it was a 7AM to 11PM, sometimes 12AM or 1AM job. So I'm really happy the game didn't just completely sink on the first day.

There is a stigma around RPGMaker games that I won't fault people for having. RPGMaker is just a platform, an engine, just like Unity or Unreal or whatever program people use to make Visual Novels. How it gets utilized is up to the developers who are using it.  I won't disclose the sales numbers, but it hasn't reached the level of the Japanese sales on DLsite on day 1 yet.  But I don't care right now, for now I'm really happy that people are enjoying the Meltys Quest!

So for the third time, thank you everyone!!

There's some common questions I've been asked about so I'll answer them here.

What project are you going to do next/What game will you translate next?

Sorry, at this point in time, I've haven't even began to think about that stuff yet. For now, I want to make Meltys Quest is bug-free and error-free for everyone on Steam. Then I want to release on DLsite Ecchi. And finally maybe take a week off.

When is the DLsite release come out?

Probably around the start of November. I want to focus all my energy on making sure the Steam version is good.

Is there going to be content patches for Meltys Quest?

Yes. No further details about that at this moment because there aren't any; But we have plans depending on how successful Meltys Quest does.

Comments

I would love to see you work on Run's Pharmacy someday.

I saw Meltys Quest on the new and trending list, and learned about a fresh pioneer of erogames(translating them at least), And look forward to future games down the line(and of course, that ecchi version).
