Ahoy friends! We hope this week's post finds you all happy, healthy, and ready for a great weekend. We're pretty stoked to share this episode with you! After more than 6 months in French Polynesia (much of it with hardly another human in sight) we were finally going to get the chance to take a deep dive into the local way of life. We were lucky enough to be in Nuku Hiva for the Matavaa festival, which only happens once every 4 years. It was really a once in a lifetime experience for us, and it was especially cool to share it with Sierra. One of the things we hope to give her as we sail all around the world is a very broad perspective and appreciation for all the different ways of living. She gets to meet people from all over the world, speaking different languages, practicing different customs, and just learn to love and accept everyone no matter who they are. We also say goodbye to Mormor in this week's episode, which as you will see just keeps getting harder and harder every time. To see her special bond grow stronger and stronger with Sierra is truly a blessing though, and even though it breaks our hearts when she leaves, we absolutely cherish the time we do get to spend together. We all cried rewatching her leave, so if you're prone to shedding a few tears we might want to advise you to have the tissues ready for this one.
Sending a big hug to each and every one of you, and as always thanks so much for all your love and support <3

On this planet we are one human race. The festival reminded me of Native American Schemitzun celebrating all the Native Nations, the colors, dances, drums, food, and most important, their recovery. Thank you for sharing.

The Tribe all cried when Mormor left. I cried when she said she was leaving ... and again when Nugs cried. Mormor and Papa D are such a great part of your lives together. Everyone gets a new family to love when they start watching mighty Delos ... as she concours the Globe. Those DRUMS!!!!!! Such Power. It was sad that 70,000 souls were reduced to only 2000 by first contact. You have helped to document their Festa History ....... and make it part of your history now. Thanks for sharing. Keep 'em flyin

I savored watching the video today; and it was just amazing. Iβm still shedding tears for you as Mormor left but know you are so blessed to have such loving supportive family even if you are worlds away. Thank you again. P.S. the dive footage was spectacular!!

For the first time I decided to not read the lead in piece before watching. So, I wasn't fore warned about the tear jerker ending. : - ( I'm trying to remember if Mormor ever came to the Annapolis Sailboat Show with you guys? Hmmmmmm If so, then I met her but didn't get a chance to start crying when she was leaving. If I ever do meet her I'll have to give her a big hug - if I'm allowed. : - ) Besides all that, this was another wonderful episode! I sure wish the Polynesian culture had been allowed to remain as it was before the French/Europeans "invaded". Certainly the Polynesians would still have changed some - or maybe a lot - but they could have been the ones to decide what those changes would be. PS - Any word about that skeleton you found?

Oh my gosh what a tear jerker! Y'all shouldn't do that to me, a 49 yo man crying at work is hard to explain! lol Imagine how wonderful the world would be if more kids grew up like Sierra. Getting exposed to so many different cultures and experiences will for sure keep her immune to the fear and prejudice that divides so many of us that grow up isolated from anything different.

I know this was at least a month ago.. but every time Marte leaves, I cry with you. You're going to need to get a place with an extra bedroom in Australia where she can come and stay for lots and lots of time as you build.

What a special episode. It's so cool to see the Marquesans celebrate their culture at the festival. I always wonder what memories Sierra will carry with her into adulthood? What a life for her! And some amazing underwater moments - dragon morays? Wow! And that pulsating purple and white anemone-looking thing, so beautiful. As Brian says, it's always great to breathe underwater! But the tearful farewells with Mormor always get me, and I think we all share Sierra's feelings on seeing her go. I just had my keyboard cleaned, I can't be crying into my computer! Thanks again for sharing your wonderful adventures.
