… and then it occurred to me that my joke may be interpreted as an attempt at belittling your project. If so, I apologize! That was certainly not my intention. I have the greatest admiration for you taking on such a gigantic project and I think the plans look amazing.

2024-03-17 07:57:32 +0000 UTCHey Jerry, yes absolutely! Because we're doing much of the work ourselves we can keep Delos until the end of the project. So we will keep her in French Polynesia in a yard in storage for the first phase of the project. Then we'll return to Delos and start sailing her westward at our normal slow pace. At some point we will sail Delos to Australia towards the end of the build, and hopefully raft both boats up to make the move. At least that the current version of the plan! Brian

Curious if Dimitry would want to look at it and/or possibly hold on to it, split it whatever (if it is, I would hate to see the approx. 5-7 lbs. go to waste?). I gave him my number in case he needed a ride up to Costco, but I never got his, no writing instrument in the kayak. My cousins unit is just a few hundred feet off the beach at Cascadas right in front of Dimitry's boat. Could you DM or reply with his contact info possibly?

2024-03-15 17:34:03 +0000 UTCHey Randall, We actually still have it stored in a safe hidden place on Delos as we haven't been anywhere to get it tested yet..... So it's still a big maybe. We found someone in Moorea that seems to know a little about it so perhaps next time we sail back there we can have him look at it. Yes, it's only from Sperm Whales I believe...... I'm not sure if they venture into the SOC or not. Definitely worth checking on though!

It's worth nothing that this is a special series of Aluminum, 5083, meant specifically for marine environments so it might be a tad more expensive than standard Al. And yep that number included the nesting, CNC cutting, and delivery as well. By comparison the quote we got from the Netherlands was 72,000 Euros so about 79,000 USD.

And it turns out Australia's Rio Tinto is a major source (7th in the world) of aluminum, so you are in a good location. All not so important facts compared to coolness and excitement in your story!
