Our time in the Marquesas Islands was winding down (thank God π we were SO READY to move onto bluer pastures...) and our plan was to make a little day sail down to Fatu Hiva, the southern most island of the Marquesas where we would make a little stop before making the 400 mile hop back over to the Tuamutos. But as we got out in the open water and saw that the wind was perfect to take us right to the Tuamotus, we were faced with a decision: stick to the plan and end up waiting another week for good conditions, or just turn the bow 30 degrees to starboard and go for it! With the allure of the perfect crystal clear waters of the Tuamotus calling our names, I think you can guess which option we went for! That's one of the coolest and craziest parts of sailing...we only answer to the weather, and ourselves, and beyond that we have so much freedom to plot our own course in life. So join us for an impromptu 400 NM sail as we say Au Revoir to the Marquesas Islands!

In the thirty-seven years with my bride, almost all of the adventures that we agreed with βLetβs just let the day evolveβ turned into the most memorable. Iβll let that statement stand. As Brian said, βA plan is a guidelineβ. If you are prepared, plans can change. As a diver with close to 1,000 dives (this includes my bride), changing plans underwater comes with some risk. But when a squadron of Mantas, Sharks, Dolphins, or even a solitary Whale Shark bless your dive, the plan changes. And then there is currentβ¦..
