Clarifications on Shannon Sharpe and Tiki Barber
Added 2023-03-18 21:02:19 +0000 UTCOn today's program we were talking about pro athletes and their lack of money and entrepreneurship after their football careers. The subject turned to Shannon Sharpe and from there I was jogging my memory to recall something Shannon had commented on over a decade ago. I mentioned that I thought it had been his brother, Sterling, that he had been speaking on but I wasn't certain the name or team. Various people (including awsumbrown 👍) had offered corrections on some of these points.
The program just wrapped but I decided to take a few moments out to research the events and see if I misremembered things or if I completely dreamt it all. After some looking, here is the timeline of the events:
-2004: Shannon Sharpe goes to work as a commentator for CBS Sports "The NFL Today" (he will remain there until 2014 which covers the entire time span of events)
- 2006: Tiki Barber retires from the New York Giants
- 2010: Tiki Barber's wife files for divorce after it's discovered Tiki has been cheating with another woman whom he sired children with.
- 2011: Anticipating a messy divorce and with his public image in tatters, Tiki announces his plans to return to the NFL.
- 2014: Shannon Sharpe leaves CBS Sports "The NFL Today"
Tiki Barber NEVER played for the Denver Broncos.
Sterling Sharpe NEVER played for the Denver Broncos.
Sterling's brother (Shannon) DID play for the Denver Broncos.
Sterling Sharpe (to my knowledge) never came out of retirement after his injury.
Tiki Barber obviously did.
For some odd reason I mentally confuse Tiki Barker for Sterling Sharpe the same way I confuse Blake Griffith for Chris Humphries (don't ask me how. It keeps happening. You all know I'm the WORST at recalling athletes).
I hope this clears up this faux pas (at least until the NEXT time I screw up at athletes names.

You did Your Due-Diligence is to be commended, Sir. I wasn’t tripping on the mixup, but respect to you for taking the time out to explain yourself.

2023-03-18 21:20:01 +0000 UTCIt's probably because they both have brothers who also played in the NFL.
