Intro to Threadbare /// Pt. 1 : A New Series of Figure Drawings

The excitement I feel when I spot a striking pose or a captivating gesture is beyond words. There’s something so primordial about it that I can’t fully express—but I’m sure you know it, too. A great gesture is as satisfying as a harmonious musical note: it’s the feeling of something being just right, perfect in that fleeting moment.

As artists, we’re not just passive observers of these moments. If you’re like me, you feel a calling to capture and to record—to share. We’re driven to create something new from the raw experience—something that is a product of the initial inspiration combined with our own ingenuity. It’s that persistent challenge, encountered in the depths of beauty, gesture, light and form, that forever invigorates my creative spirit.

The human figure is, at once, the most familiar subject to us and yet endlessly surprising. We can appreciate the awe of nature, animals, and architecture, but is there any other subject to which we can relate as deeply as ourselves? When a model strikes a beautiful gesture, we not only see it—we feel it.

I believe any subject can be deeply felt when approached with curiosity and a bit of enthusiasm. I dare not limit my fascination to figurative work alone. Still, I’ve learned it’s wise to embrace your unique interests and follow that path wherever it may lead. For me—at least for a while—that path has led here, to the beginning of an exciting new series of work.

Threadbare

With this series, I seek to explore the depths of design and composition; utilizing beautiful figures, rough cuts of fabric, and all the elements nature has to offer.
