True Angel (DxD/ Overlord): Chapter 54

In the vast pocket dimension that the yokai of Japan called their home, Yasaka, the leader of the yokai, worked through the documents piling up on her desk.
From simple disputes between her citizens to matters of great importance, such as her reports and spy details that needed to be sent to the Heavens, all things must pass through her, which was a very tiring job for the Kyuubi.
As she continued working through the documents, she was suddenly disturbed from her task when she felt a familiar demonic energy signature.
With a sigh, she put down her pen.
“Didn’t I tell you to walk in like a normal person? Kuroka?”
“Nyaa~ why bother when I can just sneak in?”
The lazy cat Yokai turned devil, Kuroka the Stray, lounged on Yasaka’s couch with a smug grin as her two tails swayed behind her.
Originally, Yasaka had thought that this stray devil would take up Heaven’s offer to go back to being a yokai after Aetherion made it possible. However, much to her and most other people’s surprise, she did no such thing.
She chose to remain a stray devil.
Her reasoning was that, by having demonic energy, it would be easy for her to infiltrate the underworld and act as the spy that Empyrean, the second in command of Aetherion, wanted her to be.
But Yasaka and many others who knew her true motivations knew that this was just an excuse.
Kuroka wanted to remain a devil simply because her little sister was reincarnated into a devil by the heiress of the Gremory clan. In this way, Kuroka would have the opportunity to infiltrate the underworld and keep an eye on her sister.
It was a convoluted reason, one that made no sense to Yasaka, but she let it be since it was not her place to meddle in Kuroka’s affairs.
As long as the Nekoshou did her job as specified in her deal with the Heavens, Yasaka would not interfere with Kuroka’s way of doing things.
“So? What brought you here?”
“Hm~ let’s just say, I’ve got some juicy details that the big man up there might be interested in.”
“Really? What could be so interesting?”
Kuroka smiled mischievously.
“The idiots from the Old Satan Faction are on the move. From what I gathered, they are going to hit three places at once.”
Yasaka stiffened up at those words as a bad feeling crept into her heart.
The Civil War in the Underworld, more than eight centuries ago, was truly an infamous event. One that Yasaka was taught about when she was but a Kit more than four centuries ago.
It is said that the war was so devastating that the various pantheons of the world were ready to intervene in it should it spill out onto Earth.
This infighting arose between two groups, now known as the Old Satan Faction and the New Satan Faction. The former group wished to follow in the steps of their old rulers, with cruelty and bloodbaths that they had gotten addicted to. They wished to resume the Great War of the Abrahamic Faction, which would surely have led to the extinction of the Devils, and maybe even the Angels, with only the Fallen Angels left alive but still severely broken beyond repair, putting an end to the Abrahamic faction as a whole.
The New Satan Faction, on the other hand, was made up of devils who did not wish to continue with the Great War and wished to gain peace for their loved ones and the Underworld as a whole. They wished for an age where their kin would prosper under new management and policies.
Given that Sirzechs Lucifer, then known as Gremory, now sat on the throne of the Underworld along with his companions, it is clear who won the war.
Yet, the Old Satan Faction still festers to this day, hidden away in secret locations across the Underworld, like a cancerous growth that refuses to die. A force that has been continuously building up its strength ever since those days of the Civil War.
So, to hear that this monstrous force is now on the move, Yasaka could not help but shudder in fear at what was going to happen.
Without hesitation, Yasaka cleared her table and put away all the documents, focusing solely on Kuroka.
“Go ahead, I am listening.”
“Alright~ so, the first target is going to be that group of children from Azazel’s institute. You know, the one born with the Dog God’s power before the big man up there nerfed the hell out of all Longinus Class sacred gears.”
Yasaka nodded, recognizing who she was speaking about.
Tobio Ikuse. Grandson of Ageha Ikuse, formerly known as Ageha Himejima.
Yasaka remembered that old woman who once came to her to learn the sealing arts so that she could seal away the power of Canis Lykaon within her grandson. It was one of the many reasons why Ageha was banished by those close-minded fools of the Himejima clan.
She had learned recently about Tobio and his group’s exploits and how they were connected to Aetherion.
“They are going to kill this group of children along with someone extremely important in the Devil society, and an old devil by the name of Mephisto Pheles.”
Yasaka’s eyebrows jumped at those words.
“The leader of Grauzauberer?”
“The very same. Their objective is to cause chaos in the Underworld by killing one of their oldest members. And by killing the children associated with Azazle, they are hoping to cause some kind of strife between the Fallen Angels and the Underworld.”
Yasaka fell silent at those words before motioning Kuroka to continue.
The stray devil continued speaking at that gesture.
“The second target is Kyoto. Specifically, your daughter-“
“WHAT!??”
Yasaka bolted to her feet and nearly ran out with all her power. However, a powerful wave of Senjutsu hit her, forcing her down momentarily before Yasaka pulled on the power of the Leylines and shrugged off the Senjutsu power.
The Kyuubi glared at Kuroka, who gave her a wry look.
“Alright. Don’t be so hasty-“
“My daughter is being targeted by a bunch of lunatic devils! How am I supposed to calm down-“
“Yasaka of Kyoto. Do not forget that you are no longer under the indifferent employment of the Shinto Gods. You now work under the Heavens, specifically, under Lord Raphael.”
“What does that have anything-“
“Oh for the love of-! Just spread out your senses across Kyoto, will you!?”
Suspicious of what Kuroka was trying to imply, Yasaka did as told and spread her senses, boosted by the Leylines, across the yokai dimension. It was only then did she finally relaxed and realized what Kuroka was trying to imply.
As she spread her senses across the pocket dimension, she felt the presence of those who were not native to the area.
Angels.
An entire host of them, nearly a thousand strong.
While their power was not worth mentioning, with most of them being low-ranked angels with two wings, it was still a significant number of them, not to mention that they all had the unique magic system that Aetherion had taught them, which made them extremely versatile and formidable in combat.
Kuroka saw the change on Yasaka’s face and smiled.
“See? When I informed Lord Raphael about an imminent threat headed toward the Yokai, he sent down this host of Angels and had them hide within your realm, not even telling you, so that the enemy would not know about it either through whatever spies they placed in your ranks.”
“.....You did not tell him about the other dangers?”
Kuroka shook her head.
“No. I only told them that there are threats heading towards the kids and you. I did not tell them the details since I was not sure of it myself until recently, except for the third target and what forces were converging on him. I was able to verify the details after infiltrating one of their meetings with my Senjutsu and disguise.”
“Then, why not tell the Heavens the details now?”
Kuroka shook her head and gave Yasaka a grin.
“No point in telling them anymore. Turns out, Lord Aetherion already had a plan in place for Mephisto Pheles, so there was no need for me to intervene over there. As for you and Kunou-chan, you can already see the force that the Heavens sent down here, which means you two are also safe.”
Yasaka gave Kuroka a curious look.
“What about the last target?”
Kuroka grinned mischievously.
“The fools are targeting Lord Aetherion himself.”
“.....Yeah. No. There is no point in warning that particular Angel about what is coming. Or rather, we should be pitying those fools.”
“Right!? Just how dense can you be to pick a fight with someone who took down the Shinto Trinity with ease!?”
Then, Kuroka's face gained a thoughtful look.
"Although I will give those fools credit. They somehow managed to drag the Olympians into this. But given how powerful Lord Aetherion is, I am not particularly worried."
Yasaka chuckled as she took out a stack of documents and got back to work.
“Well, it can’t be helped. We did make sure not to let that news about the Shinto Gods out through any means. Which meant that nobody outside of the Yokai faction and the Heavens knows what exactly happened with the Shinto Gods. If they did, I doubt the Olympians would have gotten involved.”
Kuroka grinned at those words.
“Nyaa~ do you think Lord Aetherion will be interested in giving me some strong kittens?”
Yasaka gave the stray devil a deadpan look.
“Why don’t you ask him directly?”
“No thanks~ I still want to live, you know?”
Kuroka grinned and continued lazing while muttering to herself.
“Lady Gabrien can be really scary when she wants to be. The last time I tried, I nearly got thrown into a volcano.”
“Hm. True-“
The noise of explosions, along with a spike in demonic energy and holy energy, spread across Kyoto before everything went silent as a dense fog descended on the city.
“....Well, looks like they have started?”
“Yeah~ Want to see the fight?”
“...Sure. Why not?”
The two women got up from their seats and used the special rings given to them by the heavens, allowing them to observe the alternate dimensions created by the Heavenly System whenever it activates its ‘PvE’ protocols.
Instantly, they saw the fog across Kyoto clear as a thousand angels encircled a few hundred devils.
“Well~ would you look at that? Looks like those dirty devils got spawn camped by the Angels.”
Yasaka gave a confused look at the terminology used by the Stray Devil, but she let it be for now.
The two women watched silently as the incident, which would be called the Massacre of Kyoto by the Old Satan Faction, and the Kyoto Defence battle by the Heavens, began.
