The Monster of Kaon (Transformers Si): Chapter 40

I watched as the Insecticons worked the systems of the Colossal Energon transporters.

“Kickback! Make sure your brothers have connected the Energon lines after the Cybermatter storage is drained! We don’t want to blow him up like a bomb!”

“Of course! Lord Maximus!”

The ancient machines that guzzled as much Energon as they transported were not something that one should use if they are experiencing a shortage of materials. However, since I don’t suffer from such problems thanks to my Synthetic Energon, I could afford to use them as I please.

Which proved to have been the right decision given the required Energon to reawaken the colossus in front of us.

Looking at the dormant body of Metroplex, one of the first three Titans to have ever been born, alongside Chela and her mate, Metrotitan, showed obvious signs of battle damage and scavenging attempts.

A lot of his armor plating was missing, and so were the many armaments he should have. There were also obvious entry holes carved into his body with high-powered lasers by those looking to scavenge him for parts.

Thankfully, my outlier powers told me that his Spark Chamber and Brain Module were completely intact, which meant that all this damage was relatively easy to fix with the Cybermatter I brought with me, just in case.

“Maximus, I understand that having a Titan on our side will help us should the Autobots and Decepticons choose not to stop fighting. But, I do not understand why it has to be this specific Titan? We could have revived the Dweller as a tool. Especially since you still hold the override codes for his Spark Chamber-“

“No, Shockwave. The Dweller is far too dangerous. Besides, I would rather work with the Quintessons than trust that monster.”

I could not help the sneer that formed on my faceplate as I remembered the Titan whose name and body were eradicated completely by my companions and me, forever trapping his severed head within the Argon Sea and leaving behind my most trusted friend from the War to watch over his tomb.

“A Titan that can turn on his own brethren and see them as nothing but tools, such a being cannot be trusted in any capacity, even if you have the ability to control his mind, which we do not.”

“….And you can trust Metroplex? For all we know, his loyalty to the Primes would mean that he would judge you to be a danger since you were Megatron’s sire and try to kill you on the spot.”

I smiled at my old friend’s question as I felt the Titan’s systems slowly come online as the  Cybermatter within Metroplex’s body took hold.

“I know for a fact that he will be loyal to the Prime lineage, the real Prime lineage. And I am counting on it.”

“And besides, I could never look that space turkey in the optics ever again if I did not ever try to revive her kin when I had the means to do so.”

“….I do not know what a space turkey is, however, based on your words, I think you are speaking of Lady Chela? One of the original three Titans?”

I simply nodded.

“Yes. She has been a great help in helping me reach Cybertron and is someone that I would call a friend. So, it is only right that I help revive her kin.”

“Then, do you plan on reviving Metrotitan as well?”

I grinned at his words, which were answer enough for my old friend.

Although there was one thing that I did not tell him, or even Windblade, for that matter.

For some reason, ever since I learned that Metroplex was located here, I have been feeling a subtle pull in my Spark Chamber, a suggestion to repair the old Titan and bring him back to full functionality.

Originally, I feared that the Dweller had awakened at last from the Stasis that we forced him into. However, after a thorough examination of my code and systems with my powers, I realized the origin of this compulsion was not from the outside.

It was from within.

Specifically, it was coming from the T-Cog I inherited from Amalgamous. A compulsion, or rather, a plea, to repair the old Titan and bring him back to his glory. A plea for help that was further amplified by the three sets of Titan code that are now part of my systems.

It is the reason why I chose to prioritize Metroplex’s recovery over all other tasks that I had in mind.

If it were not for Metrotitan’s blessing and subtle interference, I doubt I would have been able to escape Sentinel’s laboratory that day, all those eons ago. If it were not for Chela’s quest and her help, I would never have been able to establish a diplomatic relationship between Eukaris and Caminus and neither would have I ever gained the original T-Cog of Amalgamous Prime, which would mean that I would still have been on a quest to locate the Forge of Solus Prime (which is still on Earth according to the data I got from Chela).

And while Navitas’s blessing hasn’t done much for me yet, I cannot dismiss his gratitude in such a way. Not to mention that he would be very important for any diplomatic mission that would take place in the future, once Cybertron is restored.

In light of such help, knowingly or unknowingly, from such beings, how could I not try to help one of their Kin when I had the power to do so?

I was interrupted from my thoughts when the Insecticons started disconnecting the Energon lines, while I felt the ancient Titan’s systems rapidly boot up.

Looks like it is show time.

For the first time in eons, Metroplex, one of the first three Titans to have ever been born, awakened from his forced stasis.

“Finally! You were really hungry, weren’t you? Big guy!”

The ancient Titan could not respond to those words as he was still regaining control of his systems.

Slowly, but surely, the colossus rose to his feet, sending debris and dust hurtling to the ground as his body moved for the first time in thousands of years.

After his body, the first thing to return to him was his optics.

Those bright red eyes stared towards the ground, where he spotted a large number of bots move about, disconnecting the various fuel lines and other such machinery that connected his body with two ancient Energon Transports.

The Titan’s sensors told him that one of the transports held Energon, based on the residue that his sensors picked up from the now-empty machine. However, the other transport held a mercurial, glowing, liquid that Metroplex would never have even dared to imagine existing after all this time.

Cybermatter. The primordial goo from which all Cybertronian life is born. The same material that was at the heart of the Well of Sparks before the Allspark was ejected from Cybertron, making Primus go dormant and stop producing Cybermatter, and by extension, new generations of Cybertronians.

And yet, here he was, waking up from a stasis that he never imagined he would, and finding Cybermatter that should be extinct.

Truly a baffling situation for the titan of old.

Turning to stare at the various bots near his feet, who were either staring at him with awe or fear, Metroplex identified a lot of them.

Most of them were the Insecticons, a species of Cybertronians that had joined the Decepticons during the childish civil war that tore their home apart.

But two bots stood out to him.

One of them was someone he was fairly familiar with.

How could he not recognize the bot that had once held great potential and was secretly considered a likely candidate to be the next Prime during the Quintesson War?

Shockwave of Kaon, who later on became Senator Shockwave, and then, the Decepticon Shockwave.

The other one, however, was someone that Metroplex knew quite well.

The bot that had secretly sabotaged the Quintessons while portraying himself as their loyal follower, and then hit their systems from the inside with his Outlier powers to deal a devastating blow. A betrayal that the Quintessons never recovered from, and shifting the tides of war in favor of Cybertron.

The bot that fought side by side with the Titans and the Omega Guardians of old, gaining a reputation for his relentless and savage battle tactics, his genius in terms of programming, and his compassionate spark that sought to bring better lives to all those who called Cybertron home.

“METROPLEX RECOGNISES ARMORBITE.”

At the booming voice that resounded with Metroplex’s words, the bot known as Armorbite, now called Maximus, simply grinned.

“Well, it's good to see that your memory module is still intact, old man.”

However, Metroplex did not reply to his acquaintance. Instead, his senses picked up on something that only he, as a titan, could ever know.

Within Maximus, he senses the existence of Titan code. And not just from one, but three Titans, two of whom were his brethren.

Silently, Metroplex reached out with his spark, with his own code, and searched for the imprints left behind by the Titans in said code, and what he found astonished him as well as made him smile.

‘Could this be? Have we finally found someone worthy once again?, after all this time?’

“Hm!? What’s got you in such a good mood? Are you really that glad that you are back to life?”

“AFFIRMATIVE. BUT, THAT IS NOT ALL.”

Metroplex left the young (compared to himself) bot stare at him questioningly as his senses turned inward, ignoring the hope that bloomed in his spark at what he witnessed from the bot’s chassis.

And he found countless messages and communication attempts from his kin.

Chela’s insistent attempts to hail him. Metrotitan’s concerned messages. The other titans from the second and third generations trying to reach him for one reason or another.

Eons of messages left unanswered, hopes and concerns left unaddressed.

Hopefully, things will be different from now on.

Maximus and Shockwave left the titan on his own and got back to working with the Insecticons to survey the area, not knowing that a plan for great upheaval was being unfolded within the Titan’s mind.
