@ben: Interesting, but if I recall correctly Dwyane is a misspelled name. Im relatively sure Mikal or Kawhi or Shaivonte isn’t. Anyways, I’ll probably continue calling him [My-cal] Bridges :)

2021-11-10 03:44:51 +0000 UTCSpelling in English can be vary quite a bit and sometimes be arbitrary. "Dwyane Wade" is a great example. But in general, spelling comes second, after the way the word is spoken (phonemes).

I would intuitively think it is pronounced in the exact same manner as Michael. [My-cal]. Not [Mi-Kæal]. I wonder if anyone has any insight into this phenomenon of turning an [a] into an [æa] sound.
