I love your podcasts

Would you be able to provide a brief sample of the historical data you've compiled so I can assess the quality? I will sponsor if I think it's high quality.

If I no longer have the email I got when I first started subscribing is there an easy way to see the In-season leaderboards for your proprietary statistics?

DryPenguin

The ranges get wider after the top players. There are 18 guys I don't think I could make an argument for either of them over. Then they'd be in the next group from 19-30, and if I really drill down would probably like them over a few of those guys. So I'd say "in the 20s" as a range.

Seeing as Lowry/Siakam both rate as top 30 guys this postseason per your Backpicks BPM through the CF at least. Similar to your top 10 video you just put out, I’m curious as to what range you would currently put Lowry and Siakam

My guess is the use of the 3pt shot as a proxy for spacing value. BR's has a direct interaction between scoring and assists which can lead to the Westbrook effect. My model takes inputs that us that data "intelligently" (eg Box creation). Harder for me say why BR's model ends up *that* much lower on him.

Your video on Draymond, one of my favorite players, got me thinking: Your BPM model is positive on Klay, whereas BR’s considers Klay barely better than replacement level on average. While Klay is probably the 4th most valuable player on the team, I’d like to think that he’s still a near-all-star starter despite streaky shooting, few free throws, and poor handles. What is your model valuing that BR’s isn’t, and do you consider Klay a positive, neutral, or negative defender?

it was because I had just signed up. It's working great now

It can be very finicky if you aren't logged in to Patreon first. Try logging in to Patreon, then (in the same browser) unlocking. It should prompt for access to profile and email and that should unlock the post. Let me know if it doesn't.

Frank, the answer to your question is "kind of." I've sold some of them before. I'm waiting for basketball-reference to add some historical stuff, and I know in general they want to update their suite of stats. Thanks for the kind words by the way. I'm hoping better stats will be in the public domain in the coming years (including some of my own).

When you first clicked on the link, was the post just a message saying you could unlock it for $2 by becoming a Patron?

Just curious: Do you use your proprietary stats in the Backpicks Box Score professionally, aside from giving your patrons access? Reason for asking: Your Passer Rating, Box Creation, and Box Plus-Minus are in my opinion the best box-score-derived basketball stats I’ve ever come across, and I wish they could be made available to everyone on a site like basketball-reference.com in a way that compensated you fairly and generously. I don't want casual fans to look at BR's VORP 10 years from now and think that Westbrook had the greatest regular season ever. :P You’ve argued that Win Shares and PER should be abandoned, and I agree, but they are the only widely available all-in-one stats that go back to the ’50s. :( I’d love to see your stats take their place.

i seem to be having trouble. It asks to view my profile and email. After I click allow nothing changes
