Here's an early look at the Klay Thompson defensive profile coming later this week to YouTube.

There's far more noise in a single-season (eg 2019) than over 3 years, but keep in mind that one set of advanced stats with the *same* input (the plus-minus data) views him as a negative. Tracking data views him as much more of a positive, and in one case says "this guy is the best point-guard defender in the league." The plus-minus family is theoretically more complete (measures overall impact), but it is also noisy, especially for middle-class defenders.

I'm still kinda confused. I get that there's enough noise for the 3 year peak PIPM to possibly underrate him during that period, but at the very least last years numbers had him as a negative on D. It seems weird then to conclude that he's a good defender now in 2019, given the fact that all of last years stats disagree. How many cases are there where it seems likely that multiple advanced stats are all wrong for the year simultaneously?

True, there are some stark differences. I never noticed Klay was so lackadaisical off ball.

I see the connection, although I like Klay more in terms of on-ball defense / versatility guarding bigger wings. Also, Westbrook plays passing lanes way more aggressively.

Taller Russell Westbrook is what I gleaned from this.
