Greatest Peaks Ep. 3 | Kareem Abdul-Jabbar 1977-79

Early look at episode 3...Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. I'm open to his true peak starting in 1976 or even 1974, although the cutoff made it easy to start in 1977 where there's more footage of him in LA.

Outstanding job! Kareem is probably my GOAT peak and even though I know you probably disagree with me, I still love your breakdown. I'm glad that you mentioned that Jabbar was good P&R defender - something rarely heard about him.

That was my guess

Also I might argue 1974 could be his peak, this year it seems he got over his "Thurmond hump" (sure its not thurmonds best years) but Kareem legitimately destroyed him this year, along with Anchoring a +4 defence for the third consecutive year and also the best offence in the league. although his playoffs in 77 are totally bonkers (a commonly discussed fact in the discord is that he was three assists shy of leading the lakers in assists)

just for anyone whos interested i myself hand tracked about 40 games worth of kareem games (of varying times from ~74-83 with all available finals tracked, a varying sample but a significant one nonetheless, and he was a stellar 150/247 (or 61%), I think justin from 2020squared did one which included ones mainly from his early milwaukee years (and much of the games which survive there are vs Kareems best defender, Wilt) i think he shot around 50% in his sample, another man whos name i cant remember did a tracking of the 83 playoffs and kareem was again around 50%, Ive heard claims of people who tracked similar time periods to me that they too got close to 60%. I often wonder what it would be like if helping off kareem resulted in a 40% three point shooter getting a look in the modern game
