Greatest Peaks Ep. 5 | Magic Johnson 1987-89

Early look at episode 5...Magic Johnson. I thought about 1986 here where his athleticism and defense were a little better, but landed on this late '80s period where his post aggression ramps up and his outside shooting adds polish.

Interesting. Something I've always wondered, Ben (or anyone that knows), do you take into account the minutes a player plays in the average game throughout the season in your CORP valuations? I know you factor in total games played, but do you factor minutes played? Just interesting when considering a guy like Ginobili who you could argue provides more valuable minutes than a guy like Iverson going by metrics, but he only provides that value for circa 30 mins compared to the 42/43 minutes a game that Iverson logged in his prime. Can't help but feel that you would see a significant drop off/improvement in performance from each player if you reversed the minutes.

Based purely on Ben's CORP valuations, I think Curry's definitely making it - his 3-year peak (22.6%) ranks above Walton's peak (21.6%) KD(19.1%/18.6%), Wade (18.1%), Kobe (17.9%), Dirk (17.9%) all have 2y/3y-peaks bunched quite tightly together; perhaps some of them make it, I'm not sure.. btw Moses's 2y-peak CORP was 14.6%, it seems he was quite some ways from making the cut

Curious if you'll have one of Bryant, Nowitzki, Wade, Curry and Durant on the list. I mean if Moses Malone in 1981-82 and 1982-83 seasons didn't cut it, these names likely wouldn't cut it as well.

Did Ben say how many players he would cover? I automatically assumed 10 but he could very well cover 15 or 20 players.

😲😲😲 See I'm new around here...I didn't even know that existed 🤣🤣🤣. Thanks for sharing my brotha!

He will 100% cover David Robinson. In his top 40 series he has him as a top 10 peak.

Ah, fair play. Perhaps we can get something on him at some point. Such a unique player - I'd love to get some in depth analysis about how valuable his strengths really were to team success. Anyway, I'm loving this series and all the work you do. Keep up the great work my brotha!

No Moses in this series. A little below the cut line for me...

He's going by year and we already passed moses prime so I don't think so

If he does one for duncan I can't imagine he wouldn't do one for KG. Ben is well documented as a big believer that duncan and kg are basically equals with the case to be made for either side. Would seem weird if 2016 curry wasnt on here either considering how curry may be the most scalable player in history.

Any chance we get a Moses Malone piece?

Most definitely. I'd like to see how great the SSOL Suns really are offensively especially compared to other all-time teams.

I saw Duncan in the trailer posted by Ben in his channel so I'm pretty sure he's included.

"Oversized Johnson"

KG and Kobe are the only ones of those honorable mentions who feature in the intro montage, so they feel like locks to get covered, along with Hakeem, Shaq, and Lebron. Duncan doesn't show up in that montage though, and he feels like a must-have, so hopefully he and others will also be included.

I still think a video on Nashs offence is worth doing

I'm guessing the next players after Jordan are: 7. Hakeem 8. Shaquille O'Neal 9. Tim Duncan 10. LeBron James Honorable Mentions (Players I'm hoping you would cover): David Robinson, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Garnett, Steve Nash, Dirk Nowitzki, Chris Paul, Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry. Great episode as always Ben. I'm looking forward how MJ and LeBron (And also Nash and Curry if you choose to cover them) ranks in your all-time offensive players since you already got Magic and Larry in the Top 5.
