Patreon voting results for Greatest Peaks

Hey everyone -- here's a post going into greater detail on the voting results: https://backpicks.com/2021/04/09/greatest-peaks-patreon-top-10-voting-results/

We can also use this post (and thread) for comments/discussion on the top-10...

I think LeBron somewhat breaks the general idea of "portability".. The idea behind the argument seems to be how well you can score with or without the ball, and scale your game up or down to allow others to eat.. While LeBron fits a more ball-in-hand narrative I don't think he actually lacks the portability in the way most ball-in-hand players typically do. It's hard to explain but there is evidence in his success alone. Look at the the different teams, coaches, play styles, etc he's had team postseason success with. He might be the most diverse "portable" star even if his version of portability isn't the same as a more off-ball shooter. He's made his mark with defense, leading his team in boards, dropping 40 point fuck you games, scoring less and playing off Davis, Kyrie, Wade, etc, playing the Magic-like role, playing the clutch hero ball role... I get that the ball will be in his hands a bit more than what we would typically consider it to be for this type of discussion, but that doesn't mean he really lacks the portability to provide championship level value to various different circumstances and rotations. I get the argument behind it all, but I think he really is somewhat of an exception to the rule. Which is of course why he's basically a 1 of 1 type of player throughout league history.

Thanks for answering my question in the podcast Ben <3!!!!

Hi Ben, Comments, no action requested. In your follow-up podcast, you mentioned describing the portability of these players and how to define it. To me, your description lends itself to another mental model you used to describe Kevin Garnett and championship team building (2 on offense and 1 on defense). On offense, my takeaway from portability was the ability to scale your role up or down a championship team (e.g., play multiple roles of this 1, 2, 3, ... based on the teammates on the court). For example, Lebron plays the role of a 1, but struggles adding championship value as a 2 and would definitely take away value as a 3 on this hypothetical perfect team. Whereas Curry adds enormous value as a 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 because his game can scale up or down without taking value away from other players (on the offensive end). My basketball knowledge is lacking for the exampled players, but tried to pick general stereotypes from what I have heard. Best, Michael

What would the top 10 look like if you were doing just offensive impact and just defensive impact? (Among the players featured in the series)

How many total patrons voted?

Hi Ben, I was wondering where Durant, Kobe, Walton, and Robinson ended up ranking in the last 4 spots on the list. Amazing video and series!!!

One player might have been 10th and another 8th. Both on the ballot, but 8th place vote earns a higher vote share (it's closer to the maximum vote, 1st)

Yup!

I'm surprised Curry wasn't higher

May I ask why players of same number of ballots have different vote share?

Will you be updating your CORP evaluations now that you finished your research for the series?
