I went to my first protest the weekend after Renee’s death. It didn’t feel like I made any difference. It’s real bleak here, and I’m not even someone at risk. They’re grabbing citizens, legal immigrants and undocumented immigrants alike, so long as they aren’t white. But also white people if they have the smallest whiff of obstruction, even if it’s absolutely protected action. It doesn’t feel like there’s any direct way we can make this stop. All we can do is put up resistance and grind it out. What did make me feel better was connecting with groups helping out people impacted by the ICE invasion and finding ways to help out in my community. Knowing that I’m doing something, even if it’s a tiny difference gives me some level of hope. One thing that sticks with me is discussions I’ve heard about, “What would you have done during the rise of Nazi power?” And the answer I’ve appreciated the most was, “Whatever you’re doing now is what you would have done then, cause that is the current situation.” You can help in Minneapolis without needing to be here. Families are struggling with food and rent since earners have been abducted, or they’re in hiding to avoid getting grabbed and can’t bring in any money. There are also many legal resources trying to make sure everyone is accounted for and ensure rights are upheld. If you can, please consider donating to anything in the link. If you can’t donate, please share it to help gain visibility. Also, please reach out to your elected officials and raise hell. It fees like republicans need to hear dissent from their constituents to possibly cause a break from lockstep and democrats need a fire lit under them cause they’ve been completely impotent in any response, including my own senators, what the fuck.
