Chilchuck: More Than Just A Coward

The only Chilchuck Video on the internet, probably.

Chilchuck: More Than Just A Coward

I love that even you describe him as a thief, while he's really just a halfling union man dad, trying to make fair wagers for his halfing folks and make sure others get fair treatment via contract work instead of 'the halfling they are small and weak we'll pay em later' . Just a small little working man trying to get that bread. Also just funny how he and Izutsumi have that bond in the party growing like the dad who didn't want the cat and hated them at first but overtime he just can't not love the cat

Yeah, I'm torn on an Izutsumi video. I'm sure I *could* do one, but it would obviously just be a lot of speculation and guesswork with where S1 leaves off haha. Hasn't stopped me before though! Also thanks for your comments! You always leave such insightful comments, I read & appreciate them all!

Though, as for the matter of things about the series I'd want you to think and talk about, the only non-spoilery one I can ask for right now is already in the work (the worldbuilding). And since I really REALLY don't want to spoil you (since your genuine reactions and theories are amazing to watch and listen to), so for the other things I'll just wait for season 2.

So no Izutsumi video then? Then her video will be about her in seasons 1 and 2 together then. As much as I would like a video about her, it makes sense since there isn't as much about her that can be said with just season 1 since she only had one cour on screen. I can wait. Though I'm starving for season 2 already.

I also really like how Chilchuck care for the importance of contracts and proper trust to be the reason he went back into the dungeon with Laios and Marcille in episode 1. Because he had been paid in advance. And for him honoring contracts is important enough to risk his life. Of course his friendship also played a role, but still

Great video! Just one thing that I think would have been nice to also mention: The half-foot in Kabru's party (Mickbell) isn't a good source for the connotations of Chilchuck being only about money. If anything, the way Mickbell described Chil says more about Mickbell than it does about Chil and the general reputation of Chil. The trustworthy things we can learn from what Mickbell said: 1- Chilchuck acts like he's the representative of all half-foots on the island. 2- He made and is the head of the guild for the services of half-foot rogues on the island. 3- Chil is an older Half-foot from the perspective of Mickbell. Mickbell also criticizes him for being greedy for the reason that he has half-foots go through the guild for contracts and that he supposedly want to be paid a broker's fee. However, this comes from Mickbell, the actual greedy one who employs a kobold without paying him with anything other than food. And in the same manga page where he rants about Chilchuck and shows his situation with the kobold, we also see how his party thinks that he is exploiting the kobold. What seems more likely, and fitting for Chil's personality, is that the guild's purpose is about safety for the employed half-foots. So that they aren't sacrificed by parties and aren't mistreated. And obviously being a broker who finds safe parties is a job too, and thus requires payment too. I'm not sure, but I seem to recall Chilchuck mentioning in the anime about half-foots being used and sacrificed by bad people and the like. So personally, I don't think most Half-foots think badly of Chilchuck. The only ones who would think badly of him, when his guild on the island has been around for a while now, would be the ones who are actually more shady and greedy. Like Mickbell. I notice now that I wrote a wall of text just to explain why that I don't believe it to be his reputation, but more just Mickbell's prejudiced projection.

Thank you for an amazing video! I didn’t expect to like it this much but it was genuinely interesting, very funny, and I loved the « if I were writing chilchuck » part of the conclusion. Thank you for all your hard work and looking forward to all the next ones!
