I’ve been uninterested in most all things Diageo for years now but grabbed this only a few weeks ago for the first time in ages only because I wanted an easy drinker to bring to a party AND I was very pleasantly surprised by both the mist and the decent flavor.

. . . wonderful comment !

. . .it's not a claim, it's a simply a speculative opinion based on production established habits of the producer.

Like you, I was drinking Talisker 10 in the 90's. I'm damned if I remember what it tasted like. It's been a pretty go to whisky for me over the years. One of the better supermarket options. It has all naughty stuff but it's good. I remember how much Serge likes the 10. Whilst Diageo have been pissing about with all the other crap in the Talisker range the 10 has remained pretty solid. It's a good buy for £30 which is what I pay for it when it's on sale. I'm not inclined to pay more. Talisker 10 is the prototype Talisker DNA. It's the Talisker by which all other expressions are judged. The NAS aren't as good. The 18 was good but but not really better than the 10 - just a bit more mature. All the other old ones are just a rip-off so I've never tasted them. I once bought a Douglas Laing indi 6 year but it was very disappointing. I really wanted to taste some spirit profile but the cask must have been least by the Johnnie Walker Red team. A few years ago Talisker 10 suffered some poor batch discrepancies but so did Clynelish 14 (I had a really rubbish one) but they seem to have sorted themselves out. I'm inclined to accept Serge's assessment that whilst all the other Talisker nonsense is going on it means the 10 is allowed to just get on with being a rock solid 10 year whisky with a very individual profile. It's sold in so many bars across the world where ice is always used so I understand the filtration. They drink far more of it than us malt mates. I really don't understand the marmalade colouring though - and the 18 is exactly the same colour. I really would be genuinely interested to see it presented at natural colour because that would tell us so much more about the whisky itself. Are the Johnnie Walker barrels coming the left overs from the NAS? Are the NAS casks the left over 10's. It's all rather interesting but Diageo keep their cards close to their chests by colouring everything. WT

It’s actually a pretty bold claim to say that someone at the distillery made a “mistake” by accidentally turning off the chill filtration button for this batch…
