Poll 89 Results, Poll 90 and This Week

Well, that felt like a busy week. Pollswise, Modern Armour Pen won so I guess we're going to have a good look at the Chieftain blowing stuff up.

I don't have anything immediately BAOR-y to follow up release with and pushing the FSE Company Challenge experience back will start to get weird, so I'm thinking about throwing a few BAOR shorts together to sprinkle through the week. We'll see.

Schedule-wise, we should really get back to the War Room (if only to give myself a break from CM!). I'm still unhappy with the last script I wrote, so I might cycle round to Goose Green and cover that instead. It's pretty well documented and is very much in the CMCW BAOR period. Plus, it has some interesting elements we can examine.

Beyond that it's got to be the Brits vs the Company Challenge. I do want to change things up a bit: it's getting somewhat stale hitting the right flank every single time. Someone suggested that encounter battles (ie. meeting engagements) would be a better situation to judge the effectiveness of different TOEs- obviously this has some problems in CM terms because you either need a series of very good AI plans or a human opponent... I might have a work around for this though. Watch this space!

I definitely want to do something BAOR related, so I'm evaluating the new campaigns... been a while since we did a campaign.

Anyway, back to WW2 for this week's poll (I wonder if the Centurion counts as a WW2 tank?). Infantry Firepower won last time, so we're back round to Armour Pen and Arty/CAS.

OK, the reason why wargamers like meeting engagement is that it allows the most symmetric scenario

Regarding meeting engagements, my suggestion is to either plan it on wide open plains (North German Plains?), or very hilly or mountainous terrain. Meeting engagements were uncommon after the 19th century due to the changes in warfare. They tended to occur in WW2 where formations could be seen from afar or in prohibitive terrain that made reconnaissance difficult. Sure, it's a bit of a curve ball as far as settings go but it could be interesting.
