Find Love or Die Trying Sequel - June 2024 Update
Added 2024-06-27 12:00:08 +0000 UTCHey there, it's Auden! How are you? I hope you're doing well!
Thank you again for all your support! I really appreciate it, and it's really helped make the cost of this game more manageable!
As per usual, the TLDR update is in the picture above, but I'll elaborate on all the things I did this month, as well as give you a sneak peek into what I'm thinking for the future!
Pre-Art Playtesting of FLODT Sequel Complete
In my previous update, I mentioned having to wait for art pipelines (BG, CG, Logo) to be complete before I could test the FLODT Sequel and make sure everything looked as expected. After some more thought, I figured out a way I could test the game in a way that represented the final experience by using an abundance of placeholder art to cover for any missing art. It's not pretty to look at, but I'm happy to say the pre-art playtesting is complete!
It'll probably take several more months for Mi Goreng to finish making the art for the remainder of the game. When the art's done, I'll test the game again, but I expect there will be much less errors to find and fix due to all the effort I've put into pre-art playtesting.
Overall, things are going well for the FLODT Sequel : )
Technical Investigation on Release Approach of FLODT Sequel Complete
In my last update on this front, I mentioned whether or not I would release this game as a standalone new title vs a DLC. The former is simpler and easier, albeit more expensive ($100 USD from Steam), but I believed the latter would be better for visibility, which could help with funding more games.
I'm happy to say that I've figured out how to implement the game as a DLC to the original game!
More work will be required to set this up when the release build is published to Steam, but I feel a lot better about how to do this now that I've got the approach planned out and the build tested.
FLODT Console Release is in Progress Again!
I'm happy to announce that the Find Love or Die Trying Port to Switch, PlayStation, and XBox is now moving again! There's a few unexpected hurdles left I have to work to overcome, but it's worth it to make a dream come true. Fingers crossed, but I'm hoping we'll see FLODT on consoles in 2-3 months.
I'll keep you in the loop - I hope you're as excited as I am to see Find Love or Die Trying on consoles!
Console Publishing Investigation
I spent some time researching how I could publish other people's games on the Switch and PlayStation as an additional way of funding my games, as well as to get my next games beyond Find Love or Die Trying on the Switch to reach a wider audience. Long story short, this is pretty complicated and potentially expensive, but I'm trying my best to see if this is possible.
Right now I'm building a pitch to submit to Nintendo for the unannounced game I worked with Lascal. It's a pretty difficult application process, and its not very transparent on what works and what doesn't. Fingers crossed that I can get somewhere with this!
Mobile Publishing Investigation
I spent some time investigating whether or not it would be worth porting FLODT and its upcoming DLC to Android and iOS. At this time, I don't think I'll move forward with this for now - it doesn't seem like there's much room for indies with small budgets on the mobile platforms.
Exploring New Projects & Skills while Art Completes
Now that the development related items for the FLODT Sequel and the game my dear friend Lascal and I made together, and I'm just waiting for art pipelines to finish, I'm thinking about what to make for my next game, as well as how to make it.
I've got a few ideas for several projects, but nothing set in stone - I'm excited to spend more time in July thinking on this, and to try something new!
After some investigation into building new skills, I've decided it would be better to level up my current skills (writing, design, engineering) to a higher level of polish so that I could build and contribute to the dream team I've always wanted, rather than becoming capable of doing everything on my own. Which to be frank, hasn't worked well in the past!
It's a brand new chapter ahead, and I can't wait to share with you where it takes us!
End of Update
It's been a pretty crazy June 2024! I'm feeling excited about where we can go from here - we're getting closer and closer to the Find Love or Die Trying Sequel's release, the console release of FLODT, the release of the game I've worked on with Lascal, and new, more ambitious projects!
I hope you enjoyed taking a look into what I'm doing.
Thanks again, and let me know what you think in the comments!
Sincerely,

2024-06-28 14:14:15 +0000 UTCHey Gold! Thank you so much! The implementation approach and the people I reach are just as you say - I'm hoping targeting the former is what will help me make more games in the long run.

2024-06-28 14:12:25 +0000 UTCHello there. It's nice to hear that work is going decently smooth even with the current obstacles. I hope you, your family, and the people working with you get better soon. I'll be happy to support you as much as money allows me to, including when the sequel, the ports, and your next game come out!

2024-06-27 17:41:26 +0000 UTCHey Auden! I'm glad to hear that you have found ways to get further along into you paths and it's interesting to hear about a possible (albeit probably abandoned) port to mobile! I'm pretty sure that if you put the sequel as a DLC your current fans would either get it or buy it as soon as possible but if it's a standalone steam listing then you might invite new players that have never heard of you before to join this community!
