Weekly report 53

Hi everybody.

I hope you're all doing well. It is exactly three months since our last release, and I think we owe you a more thorough overview of where we are and what we're doing.

First of all, I honestly wish that we were more advanced than we are. When we did 0.4, I kept telling myself that I don't want each release to take this long, but despite all our attempts, here we are. The 0.4 took as long as it did because although it had a simple three-quest structure, it contained many cutscenes and dialogues; 0.5 requires more artworks than Myrtle's story, but that doesn't necessarily translate into more content because 0.5 tries to do more things; in particular:

I think what we're working on does achieve the above, helped by the fact that Lana enjoys sex and has a bit of chemistry with the MC already, and her problems are interwoven with the main plot. We are working around the clock to finish this release as soon as possible, and to do that, we intend to work on Sundays as well (until the release of 0.5), and you can expect the daily progress tracker to be updated seven days a week.  Hopefully, you'll like the end result.

On a separate but related note, we have planned the whole of the Main Story, and I think we will need three more updates -- in addition to this one -- to finish it: with Madeline's scenes, with Serena's scenes, and the grand finale.

Anyhow, we thought you guys who have supported us these months ought to know how we're going and what to expect, and having done that, now to the weekly report:

Chestnut:

Chestnut worked on several cutscenes and locations and tried to complete a few unfinished scenes that I needed for the posing.

Pistachio:

I spent most of my time posing scenes from Lana's part in the update and worked on unlocking a new bed and location. Several of the convos are coded and ready, and we have more backgrounds that we can explore.

Next week's plan:

Chestnut wants to finish cutscenes that are almost done but are missing a few elements, and she wants to focus the rest of her time on new scenes.

I wanted to add a new sprite last week, but I didn't have the time. That's what I'm going to do next week, and for the rest of my time, it will be almost entirely focused on posing the dialogues.

That's all!

Have a great weekend
Cheers

Agree with the general sentiment - don't crunch. Of course I'm looking forward to the next block of content, but not at the expense of its creators.

No need to rush. As an artist, you are most likely your biggest critic. It is tough to describe, but most of your best work will just “come to you.” Forced or rushed art turns out to be crap, especially in your own criticisms. If you publish rushed art you will instantly regret it, and there will always be the “what if” or the “I could’ve done better if i would have had more time.” Let your art come to you and enjoy the process. Your game is awesome, funny, sexy, and immersive. Being able to watch y’all work on some of the visual aspects of your art is inspiring. Stay true to you and keep up the good work. Enjoy it!!

Great write up.

The last thing I want from you guys is doing crunch time to please our impatience. Crunch time is the cancer of the software industry and it's time it's treated as unacceptable work practise. Of course it's important to have internal mile stones but the quality of the product is by far more important than a rushed release to keep a "promised" time frame. Anybody pledging via Patreon should be aware it's because you want to support the developers so they have the freedom to create something we can enjoy. Of course this mindset could be (and often is) abused by developers to milk their supporters but you guys are so far off from such behavior that I see no reason to be impatient and let you do your work the way you want it. And reading the other comments, I'd say it's obvious I'm not alone on this.

I just discovered this game via the Inquisitor Trainer cross-promo. After playing through it a bit, it's outstanding! The art is top-notch and the storylines and quests are well done. I've loved every bit of it so far and I'm happy to become a backer of such quality work.

Your game is probably the best, well-polished game around right now. Not only is the art, story, dialogue, etc all top-notch, but your game releases with very few bugs or other issues. Please take as much time as you need and try not to get burned out.

DarkmanBNM

I'm seconding all the above. Do what you think is right, but please don't feel pressured on my behalf! I would rather you work sustainably than put yourselves through self-imposed crunch.

Masterpieces take time! Just remember that because that’s what you guys are providing us with for every update so far :)

Bazzi

Honestly it’s fine. You guys provide some of the best updates. It’s worth the wait.

I can only speak for myself, but I'm so sidetracked by everything going on in my life that I often forget about releases until they're released. That, and I get unexpected obstacles. Hell, I've backed enough crowdfund projects that I'm content if something releases at all, let alone in a timely fashion. I doubt I'm the only one with this mindset.

Sh0tgun_Jacks0n

Yeah, don't overestimate any lack of patience on our part. Most of us probably support other projects and have an understanding of the time it will take to make something this beautiful-to-look-at also be coherent-for-plot. If there's a vocal minority of non-practitioners spouting off, just consider how small that minority is.

Volé

You guys should definetly consider naming your reports " the weekly nut"

I'm excited for all of this, but I just wanted to say - burnout is a real thing! Work on Sundays if that's your passion, or if you think your income from Patreon depends on it, but I hope you two aren't internalizing pressure from us fickle internet folks. I think people are generally more patient than they realize, and people who do good work deserve to do it at the schedule that enables them to maintain a healthy work/life balance.
