Weekly report 72

Hi everybody.

Many of you expected the update to be released today (I know I did), so we want to post this report as early as possible to clarify the situation.

After giving an earlier build of the 0.5 to several testers, they found a bug and a bunch of typos, all of which we have already fixed.

We did, however, also asked for feedback on the pacing and the overall feel of the content, and although the response was generally positive, we did notice two recurring criticisms:

We think these are fair criticisms, and we agree with them on the whole. The question then was what are we going to do about them.

My first response was to settle for an okay update, publish 0.5 as it is, and just go and take a break already. But after giving it more thought and brainstorming possible ways of addressing the issues, we decided we would be remiss not to take the feedback and try to do something about them. So:

Will these changes improve the update? I certainly hope so, but of course, if we see that they don't, we won't include them.

How many days will it take us to do all these? I wish I knew. But we will have them ready in September. That's a promise.

Lastly, a huge thank you to all of the early testers who took the time to help us improve the game.

Have a great weekend

Cheers

Update:

We're getting a lot of messages from people not happy with our decision. To be honest, maybe we are being too anal; we're too physically and mentally tired to make the best decisions right now. Our intention has always been to do what is best for the game and try to be as honest and transparent as we can. This whole thing has been a learning experience and perhaps releasing the update today and making the changes together with the content of 0.6 is a better option. We appreciate that you have all supported us for many months on pure trust, and we don't want you to feel like we don't value your support and patience.

So, you will have the update by the end of tonight (GMT+2)

i have never joined patreon before or played an adult game before, now after playing this and playing others this game id the best.

I've got to say, I really enjoyed this update! It's good to finally enter the city and open things up. I also didn't notice anything being too serious or repetitious. I'm not sure who complained about that but sometimes a little seriousness is needed even in light-hearted content. Y'all should definitely hold off on changing anything until you're very sure it needs changing. Oftentimes your first instinct/draft is best. Keep up the good work y'all!

Call Me Dirt

tbh I don't usually comment much on anything, but I felt the need to tell you guys that you are doing great. You could make every right decision and a few people will always be mad about it. Do what you need to, but I don't think you should ever stress yourself over the small details. Things like that can always be fixed in the future. Hope all is well and I look forward to all future releases.

ChrisRagS

The game you are making is an Art. If someone doesn’t like the way the story goes you don’t have to change it for that person. This is YOUR art. I know a lot of people are jerks. But a lot of us are okay with the content you have provided so far so you’ll be fine.

Chocolateking01

Oh shoot I was going to write earlier, I wish I had, sounds like people have been angsty. Sorry about them. There are those of us, myself included, who are perfectly happy and content with your pacing and trust your creative vision and follow-through 1000%. Much love guys! hope you get some good REST soon! :-)

Andrew

Hey, I’m not a patron for very long, I actually only came across the game two months ago, but listen, this game is your project, your idea that you’re growing over time, and the important thing is that you do what you feel is best for the game and the story! Real fans will wait until you’re happy to give us a final product you truly believe in, and if anyone has issues with anything like keeping up pledges between releases, well then they can just cancel it and come back when you release the new version! I’m happy to wait and will thoroughly enjoy whatever you decide to put up, have a good one!

Does this mean we will be getting the version that gets too serious in the middle? I have to admit I kind of wanted a chance to see what that was about, even if it doesn't end up being the final version. I'm happy to get a version tonight but even as someone who was disappointed by the delay I have to say; take the time you need, you are doing a great job.

Sadspaceman

I was on the fence because I know we'd get the patch soon but I think this is better. Let people experience the content and decide while you make the changes you want.

Pally Ganker

The people who speak up the most for games like these are usually the impatient people, or the people who are worried that delays mean that the authors are losing interest or are going to abandon the game. Ironically, those people often put on the sort of pressure that leads people to give up on their games. There are a lot of us who care more about you doing this sustainably and creating the best product you can than that you hit hard deadlines. Obviously, as you said it's been a learning process, but there's no reason for you to push yourself to the point of exhaustion. My 2 cents!

yayyy

I feel bad that you're getting bad responses. You are a great storyteller and your wife is a great artist. I would be happy for you to take all the time you need to make a release that satisfies you.

combustionman

No good deed goes unpunished... The price you pay for being as transparent about the development cycle as you've been is having to put up with the impatience of some who feel you're not working fast enough because your chart says it's at 100%. Personally, I would prefer a finished product that meets YOUR quality expectations rather than something that's "good enough to ship" (which is what Microsoft has been famous for). Having worked in software development for a long time, I can feel your pain. A suggestion for future development cycles - add a line to your chart after "Edit" and "Debug" for "Final Inspection" (or whatever you'd like to call it) and track it as a separate task that starts once editing and debugging end. This way, when the kiddies in the back seat start asking "Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet?", you can point to it and tell them, "It's almost done, see?". Thanks for the work you've done. Enjoy some well-earned time off.

MikeyC

I have to say that I think either options would be OK. Obviously if you are feeling pressure and overworked at the moment you need to take a break. As long as people know that 0.6 will have a slight change in it to what is in 0.5 then I can't see a problem. It is sometimes difficult to see the wood for the trees and taking a break and coming back with fresh eyes will benefit everyone in the end. Keep up the good work, love the story so far and the beautiful artwork

Maharg

First I want to say that I think you are taking the right decision. If the early testers gives you feedback that you agree on, of course you should make changes. Second, I have supported other game developers during the years here on Patreon and I don’t know anyone else who are so dedicated in giving your fans weekly updates on what’s going on. Some don’t even have monthly updates. So really appreciate that you’re telling us this and why you’re doing so. One personal opinion, I don’t mind “serious” parts, you had some of them in Myrtle’s quest and I liked them. That said I trust your decision to change part of it. think I will start replaying the 0.4 version then I can just continue when the 0.5 comes. Have a nice weekend!

Rossan 78

i know it may seem like needles outrage on the part of the individuals but please understand that those people wouldent do so unless they dident feel so strongely about your game. your team is dedicated to this project and cares o much about the outcome of a polished product that you are pulling overtime.

Victor Lewis

Just to clarify: I love your game and what you guys are doing and I personally am not complaining about the delay part. Whatever the reasons you guys should take all the time you need to produce your product. My only worry is about the "less serious" part, as I find this game to be more than just your typical NSWF game, beacse the story isn't just a path to the sexy images but actually an enjoyable ride with interesting characters and good quality writing. Just my take of course

Mikool

Just make the game you wanna make that's all and thank you for your hard work

Hatered

I'm willing to wait both for the changes and for you two to slow down a bit if you are feeling overwhelmed. I'm not sitting here champing at the bit anxiously awaiting update after update. Whatever you feel is best.

Greg

The way you chose to handle this really shows the professionalism you already have acquired as new developers. The knee jerk reaction was simple, re do and come back better, but the thought out and amended decision was professional to say the least. Now I hope you all can take a break, enjoy some mind time, and come back ready to bring your creation back even better. If any developer's earned a break, it is your team. Thank you and enjoy.

Junaluska Hall

If its to make the game better why not? Take your time guys! I've been highly anticipating for the new update, but if this is to polish the game its fine with me. As far as I am concerned you guys are doing your best. Keep it up and take a long rest after this update you guys deserve it.

Alvin

I personally would have been totally okay if you had delayed the release to make those changes. The only thing you said was a September release and there are still 6 days left. As long as you guys didn't feel like you were on a time crunch leading up to the finish line, waiting a few more days wouldn't have been that bad. If you feel like the changes aren't so urgent that they NEED to be in this update, I would love to be able to play it today. However, I just hope that you aren't putting out a product you're not happy with just due to some immediate pressure or blowback.

spectacularstyx

I support you on Patreon because I want you to be able to continue pursuing your artistic vision, not because I want certain releases on precise timelines. I'm eagerly anticipating the next release, and if you think it needs to be tweaked, that's your prerogative. Thanks for your hard work.

Ess

That's a shame, was looking forward to it. Let's hope you don't end up with a release that is worse than what you currently have because you decided to make these changes this late into the month while promising a September release.

cudikid

Totally right

Veysel akdas

100% agree with you, mate. Author can never satisfy everyone. He should just do with his story what he feels right. Why i should get something after OTHER people decide it is not enough good for me. This is must be developers desision. And after I whould play it through i can have my own oppinion. As a developer myself i dont need oppinion of QA about the scripts, i need them to tell me if game is working as intended or not.

Kroineko

Dear Pistachio and Chestnut, As already said, your game is wonderful. But honestly, you should really give the Patreons the opportunity to download this update now. I do not see a problem to the story becoming serious at times, it doesn't spoil the fun and quality of the game. I think many Patreons would agree with that. So really, please consider giving the choice for the Patreons. Have a nice week-end, and a nice rest also when the modified update is done. Cheers.

Marc

It's not going to keep getting delayed. It will be released this September, and I promise you if we didn't think it would improve the game we wouldn't try to take the feedback. But also ignoring feedback when you agree with it is a mistake. We promised a September release, and we will deliver on it.

MagicNuts

Again. Week or two. Not the issue ive mentiond. Im realy like the story. And now i can't help myself but to think that it could be better, before some of community feel that its too "serious". But i am not them. I beleve in autors, not in community. And i beleve that if game was ready for release, you, as author was sure in your story.

Kroineko

The story is not going to change drastically and the update will be more in line with the rest of the game. If you like the game so far, this will improve the update. And to be fair, we did mention in the previous update that we will release on Friday if there are no issues, we do consider this to be an issue, and we're going to give it a few days to see if we can do anything about it. Today is 24th, so you will have it in less than a week.

MagicNuts

This is actually kind of getting ridiculous. Like, a tonal issue is strictly up to opinion. And if you have to keep delaying the game because someone PERSONALLY doesn't like the story, the game is going to keep getting delayed. And delayed. And delayed. Forever. A bit of conflict isn't a bad thing. Don't treat it like it's a game breaking bug. It's a part of the story.

Podra Ace

I hope it won't feel dumbed down. You'll be the judge of it once it's out.

MagicNuts

Why "seriousness" is bad? Not everything has to be all comedy. A bit of gloom could have made a great and interesting contrast and added to the storyline somthing cool... At the moment I am extremely disappointed not with the fact that release has been delayed,. We've been waiting for an incredibly long time. But with a script change, which may have been something special.

Kroineko

I'm curious as to what "too serious" entails, as so far I have actually been really enjoying the more serious parts of the story (surprisingly enough). The plot is much more interesting than your usual NSWF point and click game, imo. I hope it doesn't give the story a "dumbed down" or "whimsical" feel, so to speak

Mikool

We're done with the testing; we're going to make the changes, add the new stuff and release the update as soon as possible. That being said, I understand (and share) the frustration and if you're unhappy with our decision, do send me a DM and I'll refund your pledge.

MagicNuts

Give me an early access

Veysel akdas

Give it earlier...

Veysel akdas

after the release, and once you have played the new content, I will reply to this comment again and specify the parts changed.

MagicNuts

I am kind of curious to see what this « too serious » version looks like… But if you think you can give us an even better update… Take all the time you guys need !

Zectune

If it makes the update better, I'm fine waiting. Quality over quantity seems to be the theme of this game (for me at least)
