Weekly report 97

Hi, everybody.

Before the report, I want to ask everyone to chime in and let us know what you think about the way we release our content. For the last few updates (0.4, 0.5, and the currently in-development 0.6), we've tried to prepare a large amount of content for each release, aiming to either finish a character's story (Myrtle & Rose) or reach important story-points (the Main Story). Content-wise, we're happy with this approach and think the feeling of a satisfactory end is worth the wait. Still, it is undeniable that doing it this way takes a long time.

Some of you would recall that for 0.3 we focused on Holly's first quest only and managed to finish it in half the time we've taken for 0.6 so far. That update had a number of design issues since it was our first side-quest release, and we had a lot to learn, but all the same, Holly's quest-focused (as opposed to Myrtle's story-focused) release could be a model that we may try our hand at again.

What a Legend would be impossible without your support, and so we would love to hear your thoughts about this topic. Do you prefer larger content releases that take several months to prepare, or would you rather have smaller but more frequent content updates?

Anyhow, now the report:

Chestnut:

Last week, Chestnut dedicated all of her work-hours to the sex scenes. She designed them (they require many layers that need to be done in specific ways to allow mesh animation and are some of the most complex artworks she does), drew the base, and the final versions. She also worked a bit more on editing the frames of the already completed animations. A question was asked last time about why we haven't counted edit tasks for her despite her reported editing of the frames, and in case others are curious about the same topic, for most of her tasks (particularly those planned ahead), she counts edits and variations together with her tasks (which is why they are fewer of them done each day).

Pistachio:

I planned to finish two more sex scenes by this report, and I'm about 75% done with that. I did one sex scene and have started a second one, planning to finish it by the end of the weekend. Once done, we will have four of the six sex scenes planned for 0.6. While waiting for the art, I worked on improving the earlier content, edited and debugged some issues, wrote a new dialogue to improve a scene, and coded in a cutscene that was already done, but I hadn't had the time to add it to the game.

Next week's plan:

By the time I'm done with the sex scene I'm currently working on, Chestnut should have prepared the next sex scene. I will try to animate that as well and add it to the game.

Chestnut will continue her work on the sex scenes. I wish we could promise a video or a spoiler image, but I think getting the sexy stuff done as soon as possible is the most important thing right now, and those are not something we can share before the release.

That's all, folks, and please remember to use the comment section to share your thoughts about our approach to releasing content.

Have a wonderful weekend.
Cheers

I'd be fine with more Holly, but not an 'end' just yet...

VolΓ©

i personally would like to see the end of hollys story soon

MagicNuts

how i get game

Huntergetsuga

Large

Pally Ganker

Larger updates. same like my meall., i don't do bite size..

Swordsman

I prefer the larger, story-driven updates.

Daddy Warbucks

Larger updates. They are worth waiting for

H Lyks

Bigger updates I think! Much more fun and worth the wait!

It's a difficult question to answer because although you are not releasing distinct episodes, per-say, the more resolved character arcs do have the feeling of being complete episodes to actually play through. TBH I think if you were to break from this format I'd want to see more generalised character/plot development across the board (ie, multiple side and character quests progressing alongside each other), and I'm not sure how that would effect the way you are currently managing the games development. In the main I'm fine with the way updates have been released to date. Sooner-than-later is always nice but when the quality is as high as it has been I'm more than happy to wait.

EulogizeMBG

I prefer bigger updates but in my opinion if you want to try experimenting again with shorter more consistent updates then I'd understand. At the end of the day you'll get a lot of negative comments no matter what method you choose so do what's best for you.

Rusher19

Bigger updates as it allows for a sense of completion with characters. i was satisfied with where myrtle's ended but Holly's felt a bit lacking

Thomas Cunnell

Bigger updates! I'd much rather wait for longer for content that will last longer that an hour. If we're given a rough idea of when to expect the releases would be nice too, but not essential as I'm aware complications can delay releases.

mark bennett

I like getting the large updates!

Brandon Shane

Large content is better because we get more story and gameplay.

STSDope

From my relatively ignorant perspective, it seems easier to gel changes to planned content if you haven't already released an earlier part of it that might need tweaking to support/foreshadow the change. In which case the longer update wold be better?

VolΓ©

Definitely on the side of larger updates. Larger updates mean a more coherent and cohesive story because you can edit it in larger chunks and not go down three or four public releases before realizing you’ve written yourself in a hole.

Carlfish

Like most of the previous comments have stated, I'm also a fan of larger updates and don't mind the wait. Ultimately you should do what works best for you guys.

AnUncommonMan

Same here !

Armadillo

I'm of the opinion that this is fine as is.

Tim Schwarz

I'd rather wait a bit longer for a big update.

macslate

Bigger updates make sense!

Moon

bigger updates, definitely!

Fabrizio

Longer updates please .

prrt

Stay this way! Longer updates are worth as the storylines make sense and you get something "finished" in return. I really don't mind though.

Topogigio

I'd probably prefer smaller, but it's not a clear choice. More like 60/40. Either way I'm fine as it is right now as well. Don't bother with the freeloading whiners on F95 and similar.

blb

It's fine the way it is, I get a lot of people moan and groan, but most of them don't support you guys, so keep it up, you're honestly my favorite dev team. You guys are so hard working and honest.

Sasori27

Big is better

NbSlab

I like big updates, more playtime and a good cohesive story. Really loved the last two updates because of this. But still do what works best for you guys. Just don’t push yourself to hard while trying to please us. We will still be here, because we love your work!

Rossan 78

yep, big updates better!!

playf100

big updates better for sure, we can wait

SuperDuper

longer updates have more content witch means more play time and more fun playing the game. keep doing what your doing and take breaks if you need to. :D

Mason

I much prefer the larger updates. Sure it's a bit of a bummer to wait but it's worth it imo.

Some random dude on the internet

So here's the thing that I've found works well for me: I have my support in on enough projects that I don't have to worry about waiting a long time between updates; there's always something else to catch up on. And occasionally I get a wild hair up my ass and restart one from scratch. My best advice remains the same: Do what works best for you, tell the story you want to tell in the time you need to tell it. Anyone who gets their knickers in a twist over it can get over themselves.

Sh0tgun_Jacks0n

As far as I'm concerned, stay the course. It will be ready when it's ready, and you two have never failed to produce an excellent product. I know it must be annoying seeing the constant "when is the next release?" messages on Discord, but please don't let that affect your decisions. Do it the way YOU want to do it; the rest of us are just along for the ride.

MikeyC

Considerably more important than our preferences is what works best for the two of you. If you work in a way that you don't enjoy, the game will suffer, and that will be good for no one. The same way you should make the game you want to make, you should make it the way you want to make it. Keep doing that. --Tlaero

Tora Productions

I love big updates <3

MineHack

Honestly I'd generally say longer updates, but the wait times for WAL are pretty big. Maybe try going back to smaller updates for a while? It also makes the wait less frustrating if the focus of an update is not one of your favorite girls.

TheGreatCornholio

Any size would work, your quality is what makes it worth it.

Long Beetle

Longer updates forsure, there's something nice about having a progressive story to follow. Plus with the weekly reports, you guys do a great job with making us feel in the loop and excited for the upcoming content 😁

Rent A Dad

You know, if one could hammer out a few extra camera shots for the previous chapter while the other one handled the initial writing/coding steps for the next chapter, that might plausibly work.

GilbertRusk

I much prefer the longer, larger format.. Err, there's a joke in there somewhere. I digress. I back a few other games like this and they do the rapid release style and frankly I wish they didn't. It's 10 minutes of content every couple of weeks and it feels as if nothing progresses.

Damian Scisci

I like the idea of smaller more frequent releases

Nick Hernandez

Big updates typically mean less burnout for the development team. Small incremental updates keep customer hype but it also builds what can often be unrealistic expectations. I think a third, hybrid option, may do well...after a long delivery, plan a short cute addition that doesnt take as long. It can be as simple as some extra camera shots in the book and repurposed graphics with new whimsical dialogue. Nothing fancy...just a whistle wetter. Whatever you decide...plan breaks! Maybe a side project to refresh your spirits. <3 you

Illicit_Licid

On the user end, it's worth considering that smaller and faster updates mean more downloads, and that can be a hassle. And yes, fewer cliffhangers is definitely a plus. But on the other hand, it's worth considering that smaller and faster updates could potentially mean that any fans of a particular maiden or anyone who wants to get on with the main story wouldn't have to wait as long for some new content or development along that particular storyline. Even then, I don't know that it would be worth a massive monthly download for an incremental development that inevitably ends in another premature cliffhanger.

GilbertRusk

I like that updates feel like complete stories with some weight to it. Smaller ones would feel rushed or too fragmented. Keep up the good work!

Micheal Heaviside

The big updates are worth the wait. Quality over quantity

Jim Billy

I would prefer larger, slower updates. I likely would want to wait to play until more is available if you did smaller, faster updates anyway.

Kaslin

Great job, guys! I'm totally fine with the longer updates personally, regardless of the development time. They've always felt worth it in the end and it is nice to get a full story each time instead of any cliffhangers (minus the Main Story, lol)
