Happy Friday and I hope you're all feeling well and have had a great week.
In a few days, it will be two years since we started work on the 0.7 update, and at the beginning of this report, I want to reiterate that both Chestnut and I are aware of how completely unacceptable this development period is, and appreciate all of you who have stayed with us and continued to support us (in many cases more than just financially) as we try to put this difficult release behind us. I have said it before, but I also want to repeat that we've been giving a lot of thought to how we can change our approach from 0.8 onward so that a development period like 0.7 is something we never experience again.
Now on our work last week, I would say that Chesnut had a better week than I did early on, but we did make a change to our work schedule yesterday that I think will be good for the work. Here is the detail:
In the first couple of days of last week, I found it increasingly difficult to stay awake at night. No matter how much caffeine I consumed, I just couldn't stay awake. I did manage to work during this period in between nodding off, but looking through the work, I would say that at least half of what was done needs to be readjusted and debugged (which I've been doing today).
We realized this couldn't continue and planned to stop it after the release, but it couldn't wait until then, since the work was suffering now. So, we took yesterday off, and starting today, I've stopped pulling all-nighters (it had been over a year). Today, Chestnut worked in the morning, and I worked in the afternoon, and we're both pretty happy with the results. Maybe I'm being too prematurely hopeful and we just had a good day, but I think this change will be a positive one for both us and for the game (looking back, I don't know why the hell I was resisting it).
As to what the actual work has been, we're doing the same thing as last week, and although I have to adjust my expectations for when I will finish 0.7's first quest, I'm on it, and very much like the parts that are done.
That's all, and I hope you have a wonderful weekend.
Cheers
