Weekly report 223

Hi everybody.

Happy Friday! I hope you're all feeling well and are looking forward to a relaxing weekend.

First, I should say that we took one day off last week to celebrate our anniversary. We had both forgotten about it when I wrote the report otherwise I would have mentioned it earlier. Anyhow, here's a summary of our work since last week:

Chestnut:

She continued her work on the cutscenes of the biggest quest addition of the polish phase. The Photoshop file I sent her a few weeks ago had multiple cutscenes, some showing the antagonist from different angles, and she completed three of the more complex ones this week. She tells me that two more are left which will be the focus of her work next. She also added and finished one cutscene herself because my placeholder wasn’t visually clear enough (I will have to code it into the game later).

Pistachio:

I'm still working on finishing the first quest. I've gone through the bulk of the content (minus the sex scene), but I did have to make adjustments to one of the changes I had made earlier in the polish phase because it still wasn't working as intended. This required new dialogues, posing, coding, etc. which are all done.

What's next:

Chestnut will finish the remaining two cutscenes, and go for other placeholder art I've asked for in the polish phase.

I plan to examine and test the sex scene to ensure it works well, and then wrap the first quest up. After that, I'll send a day or two to test the second quest again before beginning its debugging (there is one bit I've been thinking about that I want to remove).

Overall, I think we're making good progress, and I’m hopeful that the last two weeks of August will be productive.

I can imagine; I've had much smaller projects leave me utterly drained. Y'all have absolutely busted yourselves on this one, and I look forward to y'all taking an actual break after this update. To be clear, I'm not asking you to do that. I'm insisting.

Hopefully we will keep progressing well. We're both exhausted from this update, and honestly, it has taken over our life to an extend far beyond what I imagined would be possible given past releases. It's for that reason that we needed to celebrate things like birthdays and anniversaries, just to have something to talk about that's not about the work. Once the update is out, it will be a reset button and with luck (and planning) we'll do better for 0.8 onward.

Hi there. We have a planned release date, but I would rather not say it since I may find bugs or other issues that may delay it. All I can say is that I'm starting the debug of the second quest. After it's done, we'll go one or two more rounds (mostly checking to ensure all works as intended and the previous edits and debugs haven't broken anything). I'll have another pass at the audio (that's an area that I haven't touched in this polish phase and I know needs a bit of tweaking), then make sure the game is optimized and that the images are cached properly for a smooth playthrough and send it out to external testers.

I respect the taking of a day off to celebrate an anniversary (not that I myself ever did, but that's an entire can of worms unto itself). Fingers crossed that things keep progressing as they have; I'm looking forward to borking the orc 😏
