Hi everybody.
Happy Friday! I hope you've all had a great week. There are a couple of topics we want to discuss in this report:
The work:
The second phase of polish is going well overall. I'm two days behind where I want to be, but I'm pretty sure I can catch up later. From the to-do list I posted in the last report, I’m still at the editing and polishing stage for the writing and posing. I'm giving myself until the end of the month to finish this part. Chestnut, too, has some tasks that need to be polished and retouched and once she’s done (her tasks are fewer than mine so it'll definitely be before me), she’ll go back to babysitting full-time so I can have the entire day to work again.
I mentioned in last week's report that I sometimes regretted announcing a deadline, and, first, thank you to all of you who commented and showed us support -- it means a great deal. Second, that's just me overthinking and being overly worried about things. In fact, given how long this update has taken and we've had challenges at every stage, I'm actually happy that there's a deadline and that it looks like this year we'll finally have a proper Christmas.
Avatars:
Weekly reminder: if you've been a Best Friend or a Close Friend tier patron, you can have your chosen name and avatar (plus a short text, if you're a Best Friend supporter) displayed in the game. Make your avatar here, and send us a message and we'll include it in the 0.7 release.
Apple's fees:
Starting this November, Apple is requiring Patreon to use its iOS in-app purchasing system, which means anyone using the Patreon app on an iOS device will be charged an additional 30%. This only affects those using the app and if you subscribe via a web browser, there won’t be any extra charge. If you joined us through the Patreon app on an iOS device, please unsubscribe before November 2024 and resub using a browser or a non-iOS device.
You can read more about this fee here and here.
Steam:
Sometime before the end of this month, I want to create a Steam page for What a Legend. This way, we can add a link to it in the next version of the game. A few points:
We'll release 0.7 when it's ready regardless of whether we have a Steam page up at the time or not.
The page would be more of a backup plan in case one day, god forbid, Patreon decides it doesn't want us on its platform.
Once we actually launch it there, I'll make sure patron supporters get keys.
I have a surface-level familiarity with Steam, so once the page is up, you can expect more posts about this from us, asking for feedback on various aspects of it such as header images, game description, tags, pricing, etc.
On that note, we're still not entirely clear what direction we're going to take at this stage, leaning toward either a "seasons" approach or making the Main Story free and having a paid version that includes the completed side-stories -- we've been too busy to give this more thought and are completely open to suggestions.
That's all.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend.
Cheers
