I would say keeping his word is still something to do, cause it might relate to his haki strength, if so easily swayed to break a promise, a determination to do something, that might actually cause his haki to weaken or have a seed of doubt laid in it cause it be easier next time to just break a promise again, so if only for power keep his promise of freeing the slaves

Served multiple purposes : developing Saturn and Noah kinship, important reality check for Noah and setting the stages for future development for Noah image. Because Saturn is wrong but he was grown into this lifestyle so it's to be expected. The wave of change will come either way and end the status quo be it Noah, luffy, blackbeard or someone else.
