2022-02-26 00:32:08 +0000 UTCHey Dan, I really liked that episode. Thanks for talking to Dan Jones. A minor nitpick, that I think is often confusing for Non-Europeans (or maybe even Non-Germans?): Charlemagne is considered the father of Germany as well as France and we still call France "Frankreich" (Empire of the Francs), but have a local group of People called "Franken" (roughly the area around Nürnberg in northern Bavaria (please don't hit me for this very broad generalization, Francs :) )) in Germany as well. It's often very confusing, as France and Germany have strong differences in the ages before (Roman interior vs. Roman borderlands) and after (HRE vs. French Empire) but especially during Charlemagne's reign and afterwards the whole region was rather united and hard to distinguish the one from the other, I think (of course, another very broad generalisation). Regarding that topic I can recommend the author and historian Matthias von Hellfeld, who has a strong focus on european history. Maybe he would be an interesting interview partner (but I don't know whether he does interviews in english).
