draco flame

a many tailed fox

Alex Rodd

Here are some ideas for October:  1.- First, some more of your reimagining of monsters/classic monsters/folk tales. Love seeing some of those creepy/cute/creepily cute monsters/monster girls.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is a Kitsune. Also known as a many tailed fox, a Fox girl, or  a Fox Spirit.

Foxes fell from the stars long ago. It's unknown when, or from where. Perhaps Dubhe, Merak, or Phecda. Maybe Megrez, Alioth, or Mizar, and possibly even Alkaid. No one is sure from where they came, it is simply known that they are. The foxes arrived on Earth long ago, and lived their lives in the woods, underground and in beautiful meadows, hunting and living as they built small societies away from the other beasts of the world. They would invade and steal away items, scraps of food, and tools from other creatures of the world, and disappear back into their hidden homes. They were quick breeders and sly thieves, and caused trouble for mankind, and were dubbed "Beasts of the chase" due to how swiftly they could thieve and escape with something valuable. They stole from the humans, they stole from the fae, they stole from the angels as well.

For a long time it was unknown how the foxes could so easily slip away unseen, they were swift and sure footed yes, however they could vanish without a trace. And it was only through hunting foxes that man learned the truth. Foxes who invoke the stars, and wear the skull of another beast against their head, can transform their bodies and buckle their limbs together, twisting their form and shedding their skins to become a new creature in the blink of an eye. A fox seen stealing away a necklace could become a bird in an instant around a corner, and one that's just eaten a chicken from the coop could pretend to be a chicken just as fast. The foxes would scream in the night, their unholy howl and consume en masse the flesh of that which they wished to become, before gnawing the bones and wearing them as jewelry. They could become what was stolen as well, through their magic, stealing away divinity from the celestials, and hiding it in their tails, the ability to channel a holy light. Stealing away several plants from the fae, with one known fox, Aguara, stealing away rubber and making foxes stretchy and malleable, and Through this witchcraft they could become another creature and live as they do. And through this method they began to hunt humans.

Pretending to be a person they could learn their ways, their culture, and their language. Seduce them, and eat them, to take their skulls and pass them to their kin, slowly replacing their greatest foe. A secret invasion took place, entire towns wiped out by greedy foxes, praising the Ungermaw and gorging on the flesh of man while they stole their bones to wear their skin. The Foxes that had taken the forms of humans began to meld these forms as well, combining features of fox and man, and living hedonistic lifestyles until hunted by the knights. But yet not all of the foxes felt this way. Some would seduce the humans and find true love. Even in some instances when revealing their form, the humans would still love them, and they did not wish to kill them and eat them, and would run away with the human and live together. In this form they could breed, however their children would be wrong. Human women birthing the foxes would be torn apart from inside, and the fox women who birthed the children would often birth a litter of deformed creatures, most of which would not make it. They would be tumorous, and have long legs and feet like a fox, yet sickly human bodies and faces like that of a fox and a man combined, with long twisted ears. They were ravenous, some left behind with servants or their mother while the father went off for work, only to find siblings, mothers, and servants eaten and families destroyed.  And those who survived grew to be hideous human faced fox creatures, standing at massive sizes and killing in the night.

During this time, something new happened however. Through various breeding, and malformation, a fox was born with two tails. With the appearance of a human, with pointed ears and two tails, and the hands and feet of a fox, it was an amalgamation, but it was stable and could live. It would still become a fox beast as time passed by, the jaws of the beast pushing out from within it's mouth, as it would devolve into a hideous beast, however this would stop for a time once it took the skin of another. This additional tail it was given also granted it clarity, allowing the fox to see lies told to her and think straight. As more foxes would breed, with humans and humanoid fox creatures, the tails continued, however so too did the deformities. The three tailed creatures were beasts once more, with multiple faces and limbs and hanging breasts, and they would be born pregnant with more tumorous pups, yet the third tail they wielded could allow them to become invisible even to the detection of the fates and the arcane powers that be.

When Inbreeding became common and those with more tails were praised as being closer to god, many of the single tailed foxes fled away, fearing what they were becoming. And as more died in birth and the infants were stillborn with bundles of tails, they only wished for the fifth. When the fifth tail came, they were once again foxes, but with a man's face in the center of it's head and limbs dragging down from it, and a tail that could freeze the land before them and ice over mortal blood. Their divinity grew closer to their god and their magic became stronger. They began to learn to hide their forms again. And by the 6th they were a hulking thing that didn't resemble man or fox, and their 6th tail could call down bolts of lightning and thunder and create wild storms, and know it's surroundings for hundreds of miles. Hundreds of years would pass between these moments. Thousands would die, hundreds of thousands. When the 7th appeared it was a mass of limbs and it could pinch reality together and appear wherever it wished and poison the minds of men and possess them, and son after came the 8 tailed one, and there they had passed the threshold. They had arrived at the gate, and the beast was perfect. She appeared as a woman, with a fox like face, and 8 fluffy tails. Large fox ears and razor sharp teeth. Alluringly strange eyes, and fox like feet. She could hide her form as a human, and she could become a fox once more. Divinity coursed through her and she had been the closest to god. And yet still they were not there. They had created rituals, they had spoken with the stars and they knew there could be nine. That any fox born with nine tails would be their savior, and yet the savior never came. Their genetic were ruined, they were writhing beasts, mostly deformed, pretending to be humans, and the humans had far outpaced them. They had powerful entities, with the various foxes able to take on platoons and wipe out swaths of humans, but there were too many, they're too plentiful and varied and the fox hunts continued, pushing them back, back into deeper hiding.

What they didn't know, was that when the first foxes left, the one tailed  foxes took with them the divinity they sought. They took with them the ninth and barred it from the greedy foxes for eternity. It was hidden away in only a select few, and it had rarely been found. Some legends state that they have existed, 9 tailed foxes, entities that are like gods, rending souls and causing earthquakes with the touch of their tail. And even among the foxes do they believe it a possibility. However now there are much less of them. Though they had split once, they have since intermingled once more and the pool for breeding has subsided due to the actions the others took. Though rare, a fox with multiple tails will be born, and it may be deformed and hideous, or it may be beautiful and revered....

This is a 7 tailed fox. One day I will show you the other 8 types in all of their malformed glory.

The Kitsune are very tricky, they are stealthy and they hide from humans and fae alike due to the past they had. Even though humans no longer hunt foxes in the same way, they still fear the hunt. They hide in mountains and still seduce humans to steal their forms, to wear their skins and hide their true hideous forms, and some wonder if maybe... just maybe...their child could be a god.

The Kitsune are not as prevalent on earth as they are on Urth, however those that do exist are often times followers of chaos. Kitsune are closely related to Nekomata and Werewolves, as well as vampires as they all worship the Ungermaw....

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've actually had the lore for these guys for an EXTREMELY long time, I just never knew how to portray it. I originally wanted to post all 9 types, but decided I'd do this one at a time until one day they're all here.
