I'm so glad I made time for this one! It was neck and neck with Alien in the last poll, so I knew there had to be a reason you all wanted me to watch it so badly. I went in super blind. I only knew the title, Tom Cruise, and probably action because of Tom Cruise 🀣 So when I got hit with "This is an alien invasion in a global war" I was both shook and SO excited at the same time!

It had the raw, disorienting chaos of Saving Private Ryan. The philosophical bend and sentinel-like threats of The Matrix. And woven throughout all of it was the grim-yet-hopeful war cycle energy I love in Battlestar Galactica. It almost felt like a highlight reel of the past six months of my movie journey, all stitched together into something fast-paced, emotional, and surprisingly hilarious at times. I really was NOT expecting it to land the way that it did, and by the end, I was fully strapped in and rooting for this wild ride of resets, battles, and second chances.

And you all know this was my first introduction to Tom Cruise. WOW. He did not disappoint one single bit. He starts off as someone you wouldn't expect to ever root for. Cocky, reluctant, totally out of his depth. But being forced to relive the same day over and over forced him to dig deeper. It stripped him of his fear, his arrogance, and even his excuses. By the end he was completely unrecognizable. He carried the weight of every single loss, mistake, and victory with him. That transformation was the heart of this film for me! It made his growth feel so earned and the ending even more satisfying.

Thank you all SO much for this recommendation and votes on the poll! I can't wait to see what wins next ✨ See you all there!

Knew nothing about this movie except it was a Time Loop plot device which has been a staple of Sci Fi for decades. This was one of the better stories to utilise it. I liked the alien blood McGuffin which feels quite unique. And generally the best Time Loop stories involve a character arc going from someone that's pathetic and self centred to someone that grows into being admirable and self-less. As traumatising as a time loop can be, I'd like to think most of us would take advantage of it to become the very best version of ourselves.

The director of this movie had mentioned that the main reason he wanted to do the film was because it offered the audience a look at a role Tom Cruise hadn't done yet...someone who was bad at what he does.

Giancarlo Gasparin

Good reaction Kali. I like this movie a lot - the whole video game idea of live, die, repeat until you get to the "final boss" was pretty well implemented. Plus Emily Blunt!!! 😍 lol. You should check her out in Sicario, excellent movie and she is great in it. Tom Cruise is in so many movies that you would have to dedicate your entire channel to him for the next 6 months to watch them all. BTW, I would NOT count the Mission Impossible movies anywhere close to his best. If you really want to get a better picture of Tom Cruise's evolution as an actor you should try: 1. Risky Business, 2. Top Gun, 3. Rain Man, 4. Jerry Maguire, 5. Minority Report, 6. The Last Samurai, and finally 7. Top Gun Maverick.
