V for Vendetta | Full Watch Along

I wasn't ready for the mirror this film held up to the world we currently live in. This movie doesn't whisper its message to us either, it absolutely screams it. Through the flames and the masks. Through the silence of a society that forgot its own history and power. It felt like watching a warning that we somehow missed years ago. One that's now circled back to haunt us, tapping us on the shoulder and asking... are you awake yet?

V's rebellion wasn't even the most striking part of this movie, even though yes it was briliantly poetic. It was what he was rebelling against that really got me. This film didn't bother to takes sides. It doesn't care about red or blue, left or right... Because that's not the point. It's about what happens when we get so lost in our side of the argument that we stop seeing the real danger lurking from behind it all. The real monster. When power becomes oppressive, when fear becomes the law of the land, when people start mistaking obedience for peace and security. That's when freedom quietly dies.

There was something so haunting about watching this given everything going on in 2025. It feels so familiar. The propaganda, the manipulations, the division. It's not fiction any longer. Somehow this movie managed to be so chillingly ahead of its time. And I'm left wondering if it is a coincidence at all. Because here we are, still shouting over each other instead of standing with each other. So where do we go from here?

Maybe that's what makes this story timeless, though. It doesn't just condemn, it calls. It asks us to remember that governments are made of people, and people can choose. We can choose to see through the static, to reject fear, to care about one another again. Actually, deeply, truly care. That's what V stood for. Not vengeance. Not chaos, not really. But awakening. A rebirth.

V for Vendetta actually unsettled me. But in the best of ways. It reminded me that freedom isn't a guarantee. And right now, it's begging us to start listening again. Remember, remember the fifth of November. The gunpowder treason and plot. I know of no reason why the gunpowder treason should ever be forgot.
