We're so back! I can't tell you all how excited I am to be back in this world after such a long break due to YouTube shenanigans. But WOW were these episodes the heaviest we have ever seen so far in the series. Season 3 felt like such a heavy, uncomfortable, and powerful experience.

Going in, we know that New Caprica is occupied. To expect the worst. To brace for impact. But this dark, quiet, suffocating first episode made it clear that this show isn't messing around. The tone has completely shifted in a way that demands us to buckle up. Watching humanity under Cylon control was painful, disturbing, and deeply angering. It felt wrong and personal. Like I was witnessing the soul of the fleet slowly being chipped away, one character at a time.

Everyone has changed. These aren't the same characters we left at the end of Season 2. How could they be? Survival has carved itself into them. Hardening some, softening others.. There is resilience, defeat, defiance, numbness etched across all their faces. Some of their transformations broke me a little. Some lit sparks of hope. Some just made me want to curl up and cry.

Starbuck's story hit me the hardest. Maybe because she's one of my top favorites, maybe because what's happening to her is absolutely horrifying. It's the kind of psychological horror that doesn't need jump scares or deeper meaning. It's slow, invasive, and manipulative enough to just make your skin crawl the entire time. Leoben is so disturbing, and I am still trying to wrap my head around WHY. I've noticed he isn't a part of the bigger circle of Cylons, so what is his mission? What is his role with Starbuck and why was she chosen out of the crowd? Are there others like her? Is he defective or is this his mission? Seeing Starbucks spirit broken over and over was hard to watch and even harder to shake off after these three episodes.

Then there's Baltar. Oh, Baltar. I'm always torn on how to feel towards him. Pity, frustration, disbelief. I want to shake him and yell, GET A GRIP. But watching him unravel under the weight of his own choices was such a complex emotional journey. He's pathetically human. I never know whether I want to shake him, slap him, or hug him.

These three episodes left me rattled but deeply invested. I can already feel that this season isn't here to play around. It's here to test us and make us sit with the darker questions. Who are we when the lights go out?

Thank you for watching with me! I know it's been a longer break than usual in between Seasons but now that I'm not worried about getting these edited, hopefully we can finally binge them properly 🩷 If you don't have access to Battlestar Galactica and you'd like to watch along, this link is always updated with the current episodes. Ahh I haven't heard of Warehouse 13 yet! That's a new mention! But I did stop reading this comment after you mentioned Indiana Jones bc I haven't seen those yet 😅👀

I'm glad I shared that link in this post! I didn't realize 😅👀 Glad you didn't have issues when using my link tho

I've thought this was all very interesting and moving to me too. They are clearly making choices and aligning themselves so differently than one another.. Even the way that they look at each other on the Presidential ship while trying to come up with future plans for the humans. They know Six sympathizes with Baltar, but she isn't ousted. She's just.. 'that cylon' and they scoff at her but just kind of accept it now. It's all been so interesting seeing the Cylons conversating and calculating their own personalities. Makes me very excited for this season!

Kali Wali

LOL what! I need to see it.

Kali Wali

I'm soooo glad to be back too! Especially after an opener like THIS 👀 It definitely felt like we are mourning the characters and what they used to be though.. Everything has changed so much. And of course, BSG does not hold back in showing us just how heavy that weight feels to carry. One of the things I love the most about this entire series. They immerse you right into all of that pain and weight without every letting up. Episode 3 was a gut punch for sure. That blaze of glory and the fight in space had me on the edge of my seat the whole time! Then Lee hitting us with the "Thank you" to the Pegasus. I got a chill just writing that last sentence hahaa. I'm so excited for this season because WOW ❤️‍🔥👀

Kali Wali

Right!? The way they think is actually insane! 😅 Especially after all of Season 1 and most of Season 2 thinking they believed in God and a higher plan.. Now to just use air quotes when talking about Him 👀🤣

Kali Wali

Another SciFi series that does not get nearly enough attention is Warehouse 13. If you remember the warehouse scene at the end of the first indiana jones movie when they're wheeling the ark down into this huge warehouse with all the other unexplained things...that's what Warehouse 13 is. It's all the unexplainable crap in a big warehouse and the people who run it and keep the world safe. Not as serious as Battlestar Galactica but very entertaining and fun to watch with some really fun characters. You should watch it...hint hint :)

Thanks for the link, KW! As others noted, the streaming versions seem to be different than physical media (I have Blu-Ray), making syncing very difficult or impossible to achieve.

Eric

I had no idea the streaming vs dvd versions would be different! I'm glad you figured it out with not too many troubles 😅 It feels very good to be back in BSG! Thank you for coming back! I know that long of a break in between seasons can be difficult 😮‍💨 But wow I loved this intro back into it all... It reminded me why I love this show so much

Kali Wali

Ahhh yes! I noticed with the face first then her voice made it clear haha. Loved seeing here show up here randomly!

Kali Wali

I had a feeling about Adama but the conversation had me confused lol. I knew he wouldn't give up on his family and friends like that. There was no way 🤍 I loved this 3 (apparently 4 to some ppl lol) episode arc. What an intensely beautiful reintroduction back into BSG!

Kali Wali

I think the most moving part of these episodes for me was watching Sharon Agathon CHOOSE to fully ally herself with the human fleet, to the point where Adama trusts her enough to have tea with her in her cell and then to commission her as an officer. So, this one particular Cylon has made a choice, a choice she began to make as she fell in love with Helo back when they were still stranded together on Caprica. Meanwhile, the Cylon known as Brother Cavill has shown a preference for cruelty; Leoben has shown his preference for deception, and D’Anna shows she can be both cruel and deceptive—at least until she finds the baby.

David T

I've heard there's a made-for-TV-movie about Adama's mustache. It's called "I mustache you a question".

Brad

Oh it's so good to be back! Instantly I was reminded of why your BSG reactions were highlights of my week through the first two seasons. This show is just so emotionally complex, especially with the unique struggles that each of the characters experiences. And your reactions and thoughts are just so spot on. Thoroughly enjoyed the rewatch of the start of this amazing season! These first episodes start off soooo heavy. And you said something that hit the nail so perfectly. I don't recall the exact words, but to paraphrase, you said we're mourning the loss of who these characters used to be. Everything is forced to be so different now. The horrors of the past year on the planet with the cylons changed everyone, and these episodes pulled no punches with really showing it all These three were also probably some of the most emotionally impactful episodes of TV I've watched in a while. Especially episode 3. Galactica returning in a literal blaze of glory, and the ensuing fight in space still sticks with me. I really thought that was the end for them. Thinking back to Lee's final "thank you" to the Pegasus still would get me emotional even weeks after originally watching this episode. So excited to continue watching the rest of this season with you!

Some of these Cylons are so fracking twisted 😩

KJ

The beginning of this season raises important points about occupiers and the occupied and the tactics utilised for liberation by the latter against the former. Cylons would call the New Caprica resistance 'terrorists' while the resistance would call themselves 'freedom fighters'. A reflection of power imbalance and injustice that still tragically exists today in too many part of the world.

KJ

I'm thrilled to be back watching Battlestar Galactica with you again! By my copy's numbering, I was happily surprised when I got to watch episode 4 of the season, Exodus Part 2. When letting us know which episodes to watch, you might keep in mind that some of our numbering is off by one. Your reactions and write ups are so thoughtful and emotional in the best kind of way. This show just keeps being ahead of its time. Imagine living in a world with a masked police force with the people in charge of the government deciding to cut food rations?

Brina Blue

Also, good eye (or ear, depending on how you recognized her lol)! That was indeed the same actress who played Yolanda in Pulp Fiction, Amanda Plummer, daughter of the legendary actor Christopher Plummer!

Squeesher

Adama was always going back to New Caprica to save them, he's had Raptors there for the whole 4 months waiting for a signal before he talked to Sharon. One of the things I love about this show that it's completely unpredictable for the most part. Made watching it the first time a lot of fun, I found the same thing with Game of Thrones, another great series.
