Better Than Google

I'm just saying, you really are.

Also if you haven't read any of the Vorkosigan Saga books, I do recommend A Civil Campaign very highly, I haven't laughed so much in AGES. The cascading disasters are just [chef's kiss] beautiful.

Thank you for your recommendation of Jones's book. I disagreed with starting with the second book in a series, and decided that your recommendation was based on, at least in part, the award eligibility of the book. I'm very much enjoying his writing, and am also interested in looking into Harold Lamb. So sad to learn of the passing of Mr. Jones. This is the third writer I've gotten to know of just about at the time of their passing. (Jo Clayton and Lucius Shepard are the others. ) Call me selfish, but it's so hard to find an author I really like, it particularly bothers me when they pass. I think that physical books make a fitting monument to their authors. On the off chance that you haven't read it, Sanderson's Tress of the Emerld Sea is charming. Normally, I like to express subjective things like that as, I think, or, you may find, but in this case, I am confident in my assessment.

Also, you sure we can't tempt you out to Seattle? We have a lovely crumpet shop, which on its own I'm sure isn't a huge attraction but maybe from a "Crumpets in the colonies, how quaint!" sort of view?

Speaking of Lois McMaster Bujold, her novel "The Curse of Chalion" is one of my all time favorite books. Fantasy that is kind of alternate history adjacent, the world and plot draw a lot from the union of Castile and Aragon under Ferdinand and Isabella. Complex and sympathetic characters, intriguing world building and system of religion/magic, and more! Highly highly recommend!

ETA: buying a membership to Seattle 2025 is necessary for _voting_ on the nominees this year. That might be a source of the confusion.

Seconded. The books are very much worth reading in order. It's not essential to have read them in order to get joy out of the later works, but following the character arcs is also a joy.

The short answer is "yes". Note that the award nominations are controlled by each year's Worldcon, not the overarching World Science Fiction Society (WSFS). Thus, each year's con will post a site with info and it may be, as you say, complicated. As described here - https://www.thehugoawards.org/2025/02/2025-hugo-award-nominations-open-through-march-14-2025/ - members of the 2024 Glasgow Worldcon are eligible to make nominations. Here are the step-by-step instructions on how to nominate: https://seattlein2025.org/wsfs/hugo-awards/how-to-nominate/ I have not tried this myself; good luck.

You started with civil campaign?! But it's so far down the series! I recommend (I know you didn't ask for this recommendations, I just can't help myself) that you go back to the very beginning and start with Falling Free, then Shards of Honor and so on, and read in the PROPER order this time! Or anyway, enjoy any that you choose to read, they're all great.

Oh, that IS a good idea :D

I honestly thought that what you were going to promise to do with any hypothetical awards you might win was stab it to test it as a shield. Alternatively depending on the award it may be better as a sword as you could stap your future YouTube gold play button with the award
