I've Been Banned From Twitch
Added 2025-04-15 11:24:06 +0000 UTCBut then again, I never actually used it in the first place...
Ah well. In better news, I have just sent my editing notes off for chapter 17 of the audiobook, so we are well on our way now!
(PS: I see my email address is on this version, so I shall edit that for the public version. But if you ever need to email me, that address will get you there :D)

I strongly suspect that they couldn't corroborate with details, e.g. "on such-and-such date, from such-and-such IP address, you did such-and-such activity,…" because they have no such evidence.

2025-04-16 22:53:45 +0000 UTCYes, you said it. MFA uber alles! Always use a tough as nails password, enable MFA, then sit back and smirk if the site says "you frauded!" Everything you described sounds like a hacked account (see what I did there, Lady With Sword?), but surely you'd been unable to log in if someone hijacked and abused it (by changing the password). I would broadcast this widely. Hell put this video on YouTube … on Instapurde … on Twit-X. Let Twitch suffer the mosquito bite of Sword Lady's wrath. P.S. On Ch 13 of JSMN and loving it.

2025-04-16 22:45:47 +0000 UTCGood point in one of the public vid's comments: see whether you _can_ actually still log into Twitch. Phishers are getting really good at writing panic-inducing emails that look and sound real. I've gotten numerous emails telling me "your account in this-that-the-other service is about to be suspended" when I have no account with that service whatsoever.

2025-04-16 14:26:07 +0000 UTCAs more and more "customer support" moves to AI this sort of thing will become more common. At least until the AIs gain the deeper understanding to apply context. When rules get large enough you fall foul of "Rule set B is applying a restriction because you violated rule set A" while "Rule set A has changed to include a fairly innocuous thing that Rule set B has not considered." Rule set A stands by their decision "Your account looked a little odd for having lots of followers but no posts." Rule set B stands by their decision "Odd behaviour is often a sign of fraud and we trust Rule set A to detect this!"

2025-04-16 08:48:02 +0000 UTCGetting banned from Twitch seems like an appropriate punishment for signing up to Twitch. Sorry Jill, no sympathy for you.

2025-04-15 18:19:15 +0000 UTCPatreon also has terrible support. They once banned me for fraud after my card holder automatically denied a charge. It took forever to explain that it wasn’t me who did it, that it was automatic.

2025-04-15 17:24:14 +0000 UTCJill is an ongoing target of a subset of highly motivated, very online people based on political issues. They have long arms into the tech world and unlimited time to try and ruin people's lives.

2025-04-15 16:04:47 +0000 UTCFrom what I can tell, you're not losing much, if anything.

2025-04-15 15:27:42 +0000 UTCHello lovely. Twitch is terrible, I lost my password for my old account and they refused to give me a new one. There are now certain chats I can't talk in because twitch needs SMS verification and I buggered if I am buying a new SIM card to appease Bezos.

2025-04-15 15:23:15 +0000 UTCI think we have found the culprit.

2025-04-15 14:23:29 +0000 UTCI used to be on Nebula, but I left in 2021. It’s ok, but it’s definitely not comparable to the big players like YouTube (or twitch, though I am rethinking joining them 😂)

2025-04-15 13:56:28 +0000 UTCHonestly losing twitch is probably meaning less. Its turning into the garbage dump of video streaming pretty fast at this point. I would think Nebula might be more your speed, little more high brow, slightly less click bait. Seems like somebody doesn't like you that used to work at youtube and recently moved to twitch.

2025-04-15 13:50:29 +0000 UTCAh, Amazon. Up there with Meta and Alphabet for their Kafka-esque support systems. Just a wild hypothesis, but if (if!) a bunch of your fans realised that you had a Twitch account and chose to subscribe to it (for free) using their Amazon Prime benefits, then it might look suspicious that an account with no content was (at least in principle) getting $$$ from Prime?

2025-04-15 13:47:03 +0000 UTCOh No! There goes your future live streaming empire. All those subbies and hype trains, left alone out in the cold...

2025-04-15 13:28:07 +0000 UTCMy condolences. I hope you will recover from this. Does Nemo know your passwords? Could he have been doing fraudulent purchases of squirrel recipees?

2025-04-15 13:17:45 +0000 UTCHaha, the number, variety, and severity of horrible things she wasn't doing there is so vast that it's probably simpler just to list the things she *did* do there! 1. She signed up

2025-04-15 12:57:36 +0000 UTCI was once similarly banned from a homeschool forum of all things. They said I was committing fraud and breaking rules etc. There was no appeal. I hardly posted there, and mostly just perused it to get ideas from other people. I tried creating a new account with a different email address, but was somehow still blocked. Only after deleting all cookies was I able to get back in under a different account.

2025-04-15 12:32:09 +0000 UTCLet’s leave the DVLA out of this 😬
Jill Bearup
2025-04-15 12:04:08 +0000 UTCI set up an Instagram account and followed a handful of people. A few weeks later, my account was suspended for breaking community guidelines. I had not yet posted or replied to anything, so unless one of the guidelines is that you must post something (not listed if so), then I could not have broken any guidelines. Getting the suspension listed required selfies holding up specific signs and I really felt I was being trolled at one stage. We are unfortunately living in a world of automated systems. Requests for 'manual review' generally just throw the situation back at the automated system that got it wrong in the first place (Gaslighting at best, flat out lying at worst). Don't get me started on the DVLA!

2025-04-15 12:02:15 +0000 UTCYeah, Twitch has gotten about as bad as 4chan at this point. Some mod probably saw you as a "woman online with a platform" and immediately made sure you couldn't expand your brand on Twitch. I know for a fact that my decade old account is shadowbanned from broadcasts, so I can't even get promoted via Twitch's (abysmal) discovery system. So yes, it's far worse customer service than YouTube. It's almost better to stream on TikTok for non-gaming related content at this point.

2025-04-15 11:52:46 +0000 UTCI wonder if it was a similar thing to the YouTube demonetisation, in that COMPUTER SAID NO and suddenly you're stuffed. :S
Jill Bearup
2025-04-15 11:36:55 +0000 UTCIt would have been quite nice of them to explain in more detail, as you say, WHAT usage patterns etc. 😅
Rok
2025-04-15 11:36:28 +0000 UTCI, too, was permanently banned from Twitch for purchase abuse around that same time. I have/had no idea what kind of fraud I had committed. I had to create a completely new Twitch account using a different name. I think that I’m innocent of all fraud charges, but that’s how I solved my problem.

2025-04-15 11:35:19 +0000 UTCAt this point, me too :D
