Added 2025-07-10 10:02:19 +0000 UTCHooray, the twentieth century is coming into view! Science fiction fandom, the first use of "fan fiction", and a minor digression on mimeographs, hectographs, and spirit duplicators :D

2025-07-10 22:17:07 +0000 UTCI've always understood it to be a mi mee oh graph and the pronunciation guides seem to back that up. Now I have an image in my head of some busybody presenting evidence to local councilors about how the town centre is being over-run by street performers and has produced a Mime-O-graph to demonstrate that.

2025-07-10 15:51:55 +0000 UTCI've never heard the term "scientifiction" but I recall quite violent arguments in the 1970s about "SF" vs. "sci-fi"; the former being the only acceptable term for true fans of the genre, and the latter used only by dilettantes, the great unwashed, and assorted filthy casuals. Also, this video appears to cut off in the middle at 4:10

2025-07-10 13:47:03 +0000 UTCSpirit duplicators. Simpler times of fragrant purple ink dittos. Did UK students do this like we did in the US with fresh printed handouts? https://youtu.be/Uu3iCvAQCHg?si=tx_-QipYXqGzWJ7Q
