It may be helpful to know that ropes use alternating twist light that for stability. One level wanting to unravel causes the other layer to twist tighter, which encourages both layers (or more, if you are going more than two layers deep) to not unravel. Of course, ropes tend to be braided these days, which make the whole thing moot. I wonder of you can kumihimo your hair (or someone elses).
