Just Space Me Now ep 13: Maybe He Really *Is* A Mathematician...

I finally figured out what happened next. Huzzah for me. Expect maybe 1-3 more episodes in this season, and then I'll take a break to do other things for a bit (and also to figure out what happens in Season 2)

Wait, cali is in author avatar/wikipedia mode, is she a cyber Hermione?

Matthew C. Darby

The name is…a little misleading. It’s a digital mask, not body defense.

jmundt33a

So apparently personal shields are insufficient to completely block a Stop Drop hit, though good for identity obscuring...

Crochet4Joy

Jill's a Lumberjack, but she's OK, She's OK ...

Graham William Kidd

Medbed Ted, not yet dead, very well read, it must be said

Brenton Clark

Love the new earpiece and I love Steve upside down!

Cyn Virtue

Oh hell, this is sounding awfully like the opening to a TTRPG campaign I once played in. Except that story began with a boring pre-flight announcement from the moon to Proxima Centauri. Our FTL system was also based on conduits that greatly reduced travel time between stars. The engines needed to for interstellar conduits had to be large, though. And the conduits were supposed to be 100% safe, although conduit entrance and exit points were known for piracy in the less-well-civilized planets. A descendant of the guy who invented the FTL engine figured out that NEITHER of those two things are true and built a ship that could punch into other ships conduits and create its own despite being way smaller and more maneuverable than the large craft that didn't need a ferry for interstellar travel. And the only people who knew it were the pirates who'd kidnapped him. YES our game's Sci-Fi was a mix of Niven's Known Space, Dune, Babylon 5, Firefly, and Outlaw Star. The plot was definitely not great SF/F literature, it was friends entertaining each other. And yes, there's a lot of tropiness in what we played. Still, a fun story involving a dangerous discovery about the nature of interstellar flight sounds like great fun!

YASSS, the plot thickens! I love CA-roline LI-ndley asking the real questions, and the ship SHIPPING Med Bed Ted and Bren! (I know I’m not original- I see others made these connections before I came to comment, thinking I was so clever. Still, very amusing!). St3v3 is amazing as always. Eddie seems nice but a bit oblivious. I’m not seeing sparks between Bren and anyone else just yet, but holding out hope for a queer romance doesn’t seem like it will pay off, so my money is either on med bed ted or a third male love interest, yet to be introduced. Also, I’d love a sneaky peek into how Caroline & Henry the Hot Editor are going, and if any of these new characters happen to have his face!

3.14159265 in the sky!

Leonard Richard Stanway

I hope so. 🤣

Daniele

Is Hot Mathematicians a romance novels trope?

Lars Gottlieb

Thank you for that Lionel Ritchie earworm…

Liz C

It’s practically a guided invitation!

Janellea Macbeth

Same! Things had been fun so far, but this episode is where I felt the plot give a satisfying *click*. Strap in, here we go!

StephanieGail

Oooooooooooooh. This is an excellent installment! :D

StephanieGail

Ooo, the Ship pun. I hadn’t picked up on that. Well played. Jill: if it wasn’t intentional, just lie to us and take the credit. It’s brilliant.

Smitty Halibut

Glad I’m not the only one who noticed that. :-)

Smitty Halibut

Also loving the series so far! On a similar vein where should I drop a link for a possible fight review?

Discworld4eva

I love the use of Martingale as a surname. Congrats on a very clever (and relatively subtle) statistics reference.

JWLM

Approved.

jmundt33a

Cali's AI language protocols are a direct descendant of 21st century LLMs which were trained on fanfic probably. Possibly leading to a time paradox where Cali was trained on Caroline's novelisation of what is going on right now!

Geoff Lamb

I am arbitrarily calling Caroline infecting CALI, the Carolingian Romance Virus

T R P Watson

Huzzah for you, and huzzah for us! It feels like you're bringing us along on your/Caroline's/Bren's adventure and I love it so much! Also quite a big fan of CALI's inappropriate/personal questions. Pretty smart of Caroline, haha. The story is just getting gooder and gooder!

Abigail Poirier

Then it's not an author fight it's a tech problem 😆

Winslow

That "call me Bren there's no one here to impress" line is definitely going to come back to haunt her when she does need to impress someone later. 😂

Winslow

As someone boring enough to collect gimmicky USB sticks: I've seen a range from a life-sized hammer to a chip of plastic barely larger then a hole in the connector. And this is we real world technology. God knows what they'll think up in a galaxy far far away.

electric shaman

LOL, Cali standing in for Caroline. If you won't answer her questions outside the story she's going to ask them in-fiction, Bren! :D

Eva Schiffer

I wonder if we'll get a Jacob/Edward dynamic. Or maybe all three can live happily in a polycule.

Anders

Does one data stick really look that different from another?

Anders

Bren: says goodbye to love interest 1. Bren: sends hot former best friend home. Caroline: I will make your computer system haunt you. Also, loving Ted's backstory! I kind of like him better than Eddie, but that could just be me.

Cassandra

Cali is Caroline’s self-insert 😂

Katarina Ivancik

I am LOVING the Space me now series!

WhiteBuffalo

Of course he is a mathematician! He used plural verbs with "data", not singular! At least where I am, that's a pretty big sign you have lived in an ivory tower!

Lisa

This hits me with joy the same way “grand theft equine” did. Just seems to cause the series to “arriv3” in my head and establish itself. ❤️

Dallas Hockley

Agreed. Steve is delightful!

Ann Brookens

I second that! And I'll third, fourth, and fifth it too if that's what it takes to make the book happen. 😁

Raphaela

The question therefore becomes: What was Ted up to that he couldn't avail himself of his private starship and his staff of pilot(s) and bodyguards? This could become extremely interesting -- and, from Bren's perspective, likely "Chinese" curse values of "interesting"!

Raphaela

Whew! Medbed Ted returns to the story with a REALLY interesting background! And what is with CALI and the intrusive personal questions???

Ann Brookens

Steve is the greatest character in this series and nobody can change my mind. Great video.

Christoph

This book, the sci-fi romance, which you are definitively not going to write. I will buy it. And I will make all my friends buy it. I will also support you in selling the rights to Netflix, but don't let that stop the book project that you definitively won't be doing.

Kristian Köhntopp

Shielding means you just look like a big fuzzy blob on camera. You can tell their species, but basically nothing else 😁 (I have probably not explained this particularly well and expect many confused comments when the video goes public)

Jill Bearup

So…is Caroline taking over CALI to force answers to romance questions? I guess that “transport a lonely billionaire” scenario from vid 1, wasn’t an idle threat. Poor Ted. No ship pilot or personal security? His sisters and cousins will be VERY cross with him when he gets home. FUN stuff!😁

jmundt33a

Loving this story! On a completely different note, where should I drop a link to a video for possible armour review?

Rix Scaedu

CALI (who I now wonder if Ted's family had because they invented it or some such) asking if Bren is pleased to get to meet Ted again, haha... The ship ships them in more ways than one! 😂 And ooh, this episode sheds some light on things indeed! 😲 Also, I love that little interaction interlude with St3v3! 😆💖

Melita_H

omg so many delights in this episode! I love Steve on the ceiling and the green med bay, I love how insistent Bren is on doing things on her own despite Caroline's insistence, and oh man are those the same power conduits running through her ship?!?

Renee - EnsembleofWolves

Yes, Cali and Caroline are starting to collide to fi d Bten love!

Katherine Trill

Fine, fine... their faces weren't visible... but what about body frame? Posture? Attire? I mean... do they match to the two we've seen before?

Abraxas

St3v3's dancing on the ceiling. That's going to come in hand holding lights for some engineering shifts.

shift shift

love this story!

Ian Norton

Threads starting to come together - nice!

Liz C

Eeeee!!! New episode!!!!! You made my morning!!!!! Thank you!!!

Janellea Macbeth

Yessss my show is ONNNNN!
