💀 I’m Not Dead! Just Been Working!

Hey everyone! 👋

I've been a bit quiet lately, but I promise I haven’t vanished! I’ve spent the last month diving deep into developing a brand-new feature for the F1 Manager Database Editor: News Generation. I’m thrilled to finally share some solid progress with you!

🛠️ Current Progress: Race Results, Qualifying, Transfers, and Rumors

I’ve completed the news generation for race results and qualifying, and now I’m working on driver transfers and rumors. Turns out, transfers and rumors are proving to be more complex than I expected. They involve handling a lot of dynamic and varied data, making it a bit tricky to generate consistent and interesting articles.

I didn’t say much earlier because I wanted to make sure the concept was actually viable before announcing it. Plus, I wanted to show more variety beyond just race results to give you a clearer idea of the final scope.

💡 Why Use AI for News Generation?

I know that using AI to generate news content can be a bit controversial, as it raises questions about the role of human creativity and writing. However, my main goal here is to create a dynamic and immersive experience that avoids repetitive content. The titles are already generated using templates, and while this works for short, impactful headlines, it would feel too static and predictable if the body of the articles followed the same pattern. That's why I'm using AI to generate more varied and interesting narratives.

🌐 Why Is It Taking So Long?

Developing this feature is taking longer than expected because it involves handling a lot of diverse information, organizing it efficiently, and then passing it to the AI model in a way that produces accurate and engaging results. There’s been a lot of trial and error to get the system just right, but I’m aiming to have it ready for release in June.

💾 Data Storage and File Naming

One important thing to note: news are saved in the browser. If you change the save file name, the news won't load correctly. To avoid this, make sure to keep the same file name whenever saving and loading your progress.

🔑 Access and Availability

Initially, the news feature will be open to everyone for a few weeks to gather feedback and make improvements. After that, it will become an exclusive feature for Patreon members. I haven't decided yet whether it will be available to Backer or Supporter tiers, but I want to give everyone a chance to try it out first.

💡 Why Make It Patreon-Exclusive?
I don't consider this a core feature of the editor, as it doesn’t fundamentally change the way you edit the database. Instead, it’s designed to enhance immersion in your game, offering an additional layer of storytelling. Since it’s more of a bonus feature than an essential tool, I decided to make it available as a Patreon perk.

Up until now, Patreon supporters have mostly received small quality-of-life improvements and the removal of ads, but I wanted to give something more substantial and unique as a thank you for your continued support.
