Accidental, Wand, and Wandless Magic

Accidental

Accidental magic is a variation of wandless magic, one that can only be used by children (for as one gets older, they slowly but surely use their ability to use accidental magic).

Accidental magic is caused when magical children go through extreme emotions. It, unlike wandless and wand magic, can not be controlled; its user will not be able to bend it to its will. Since it does not use a wand, accidental magic can not be tracked by the Ministry of Magic.

Wand

Wand magic is a form of magic that requires a wand. It can be used to perform many complex and powerful spells.

Wand magic is far more common than its wandless counterpart for several reasons. For one, those who become too dependent upon wandless magic can not learn wand magic. Wand magic in itself can also accomplish far more than wandless magic.

Wand magic is additionally far easier to use than wandless magic. This is because a witch or wizard using wand magic is bringing the ambient magic that surrounds them into themselves, changing it, and sending it out. Because it temporarily enters the witch or wizard (interacting with the witch or wizard’s mind and soul), it is much easier for the witch or wizard in question to manipulate.

Wandless

Wandless magic is a form of magic that does not require a wand. It usually can only be used to do very basic and simple things (unless one is experiencing extreme need or emotions).

Wandless magic is practically impossible for wizards who use wands to accomplish (as wizards who use wands grow accustomed to using wands). It is for this very reason that children stop having bursts of accidental magic around the time they receive their wands.
Despite this it is far better for one to learn to use wands before attempting wandless magic, as although it is possible for a witch or wizard dependant upon a wand to learn wandless magic (albeit nearly impossible), it is not possible for a witch or wizard truly dependant upon wandless magic to learn to use a wand.

This is the main reason why witches and wizards most commonly use wands, and almost all of them are incapable of wandless magic.

Wandless magic is incapable of being tracked, unlike accidental and wand magic. This is because a witch or wizard using wandless magic simply change the magic that surrounds them, while accidental and wand magic users bring the magic around them into themselves, change it, and then send it out.

Because wandless magic immediately interacts with the magic around the witch or wizard in question (rather than properly absorbing it), the witch or wizard in question can use wandless magic for much longer. However, wandless magic is extremely limited in its capabilities, something that negates the aforementioned benefit.
