Time for a new MotM! This time we've gone for an interesting landscape feature with lots of adventure potential!
The Devil's Maw is a deep, smoking hole in a hilly region - clearly an entrance to the underworld, or a place that something bad may emerge!
The variants are Hellmouth Caldera, Caldera Lake and Skullfire Shrine

How about a bubbling cauldron of something toxic: bubbling up and then spilling down the paths as a stream (and almost certainly poisoning the local river/lake/irrigation system)?

2025-05-10 15:26:55 +0000 UTCImo the pathway could be interpretated of going down instead of up. If so, to the spectator, the hole would be a small icy lake. Actually the ice layer is the ceiling for a hidden white dragon lair.
