Third Map - Ideas Please!

Hi everyone,

Hope you're all doing well.

For the next Third Map, we want you to suggest maps based on the word 'DUNGEON'.

We'll pick our favourite from all of the ideas in the comment section.

Have fun!

I'm way late to the party here, but in the event you're seeking inspiration still, or maybe for a future release, a non-linear map of a ruined city would be neat. I always struggle and hang on the detail of "what was this place" and it'd be cool to see a creative expert like you take a swing at it. in my head its a lot of gray stone, dust and refuse; the evidence of hundreds of years of decay and dereliction. so in the event you ever want more inspo - that's my personal request! :3

Please no dungeons! There are thousands of dungeon maps out there; I subscribe to Heroic Maps for original materials that I can’t get elsewhere. If it has to be a dungeon — I know the theme has already been selected — I agree with Emily and Sven; I’d like it to have overlays that I could use to make the path in very different from the path out — it would very much surprise players to have to fight and think their way though such a dungeon after rescuing an important prisoner, or recovering an artifact…

The throne is opulent and clean, and the audience hall is large and red-carpeted. There, players receive requests from kings and noblemen, report on their assignments, and receive rewards. But it could turn out to be the scene of an assassination or a coup d'état. As a variation, how about a grand hall for highbrow socializing and dancing, not like those of adventurers, or a royal version of the undead, the rulers of the night?

Tongue in cheek: Dung - Eon. How about a sinkhole long used as a refuse pit leading to the lair of an Otyugh or Neo-otyugh; a beast that subsists on the filth thrown into the pit. You could play with colors to show green slime, gray ooze, ochre jelly in various caverns below the sinkhole, also living on the filth. Perhaps at the surface there's a hut for a keeper of the beast, who protects folk from falling in and charges a fee for trash disposal. Sounds like work for a troll....

Most important to me would be a dungeon (somewhat like Sven suggested) that uses overlays to change in ways that force players to modify their plans and that makes the dungeon less linear and more unpredictable. Ideally, changing conditions could also impact combat.

A planar prison where the most dangerous creatures of the multiverse are kept prisoner. Whether they committed a crime or not is irrelevant to the demonic keepers who oversee their incarceration. There might be lava, there might be pointy rocks, there might even be pits.

I’d like to see a vertical dungeon, 6 or 7 levels deep or more. There only needs to be 3 or 4 “rooms” per level but it keeps spiraling down to a cavern or tomb or entrance to an underdark kind of area.

Whatever you decide, I'd like to see a dungeon with moving walls or a rotating center chamber that opens access to closed areas and closes the way in. You can use overlays to represent the changes.

Sven Myrin

Clockwork dungeon. Various big vault doors with gears. Maybe an interesting interlocking gear or clock layout in some segments. Various random machinery as the scene setting. What might it and do what like the adventurers repurpose it to do

From Pathfinder there is a city Cassomir which has a zone called the Locker. Essentially this city is built on a swamp and things sink into the swamp. The people just built on top of it. This has created a megadungeon which is a mixture of Darklands (Underdark) caverns, sewers, and old parts of the city. Imagine city blocks that are underground and half buried! They exist there! I think something like that would be a fun dungeon to see. I had to map it myself for my game since nobody has anything like that.
