September's MotM & Variant Preview - Pikebridge Watch House

Hey everyone,

Time for a preview!

For the next MoTM, we've created Pikebridge Watch House - a ruined watchtower by a bridge, which you can get broken and intact, so it suits you whatever you need. The variants are a winter version (called Rutling Northway Watch Tower) and a coastal version (Saltcliffe Watch)

Now, you'll notice there' s a set of spiral stairs going down from the ruins. For the Alt-version, instead of suggesting an alt for this map, we'd like you to suggest what's down below! They don't need to be linked to a specific variant - the idea is that you can take any of the surface maps and use any of the lower maps.

We'll pick our favourites and create a poll in the next few days, then make the top 2 or 3 winning ideas.

Have fun!

Do we a have poll going? 😎

I was going to ask about an intact watchtower option - even if it's only as an overlay, as you've used for upper floors on some of the other maps.

Simon 'Landmine'

Hi Joe, instead of a dungeon, could an option be a two-level intact and functioning watchtower as an overlay? Perhaps the party crosses the well guarded bridge on their mission - on the way home, the tower and bridge is crushed; new mission 😱. A functional tower could also work on the coast version map 👍

René Bargisen

Sorry I am late to the party but what if there was a small vault located inside the watchtower where confiscated items were kept? Since it's a watchtower, there could also be a barracks and/or a supervisor's quarters as well.

Jimmy the Barkeep

Yes, the tower was ruined many, many years ago . You can either play it that the bridge was too, or that it didn't suffer the same fate, or was repaired

Heroic Maps

A three level small dungeon with the stair leading two levels down. First level houses some hostile humanoids who has made the tower their home. The second level is used for storage and has a prison cell. The third level is accessed through a small collapsed hole in the second level ground. The third level has a small pond and water everywhere, partly crumbled with an overlay of a secret entrance to the Underdark

Down below, there's a shrine to a goddess of nature, or a dark god with bones littered. Or there's a narrow, rocky beach with a beached boat... or the remains of a shipwreck.

Sorizzen

I'm a little confused -- in the Pikebridge Watch House version where the bridge is out, the watchtower is decrepit. That makes sense. However, the watchtower also appears to be decrepit in the version where the bridge is intact. Was this intentional?

Charles Seljos

How about a tunnel underneath the river, complete with a few rooms for smugglers to lay low, and a concerning amount of water on the floor in some places

A 4 mini-levels map with the last one flooded ? A map partially collapsed by a a cave-in on the river side with the water that goes down again by another staircase ?

Talking about a useful map! Wauv!! 👍👍👍👍👍
