An important update to Patreon - Please Read

Don't worry - it's not bad news! Just a change to some logistics.
You may have seen that Patreon are making changes to the financial models they offer. Essentially, what's happened is Apple have said to them ' if you want to have your app available in our marketplace, you'll need to only offer the same subscription methods that we support - i.e. anniversary billing'. Patreon, not wanting to lose that, have removed all subscription methods except one. So, anyone that was on a 'per-creation' method has to change. That's a big deal for them.
For us, with a 'per month' model, the only change is that new patrons, going forward, will be billed on the date they joined each month. Existing patrons won't be affected - your billing day will just continue to be the start of the month (though that would change if you cancelled and then rejoined).
So, whilst Patreons decision is going to be a massive problem for lots of creators, it's only a minor change for us, fortunately.
However, the fact that there won't be a single 'billing' day means that it doesn't make sense to have a single 'rewards day'. We'll still be putting out the November rewards on November 5th (as usual), but that will be the final 'bundle'. After that, and including the next set of maps, we'll just release them onto Patreon (and DTRPG) when they're done. There are definitely some benefits there - it means you'll get a steady stream of maps throughout the month, and we'll be able to promote them more easily as an immediate reward for someone joining the Patreon. Each release, you'll get an email with the DTRPG download code (which will be valid for 6 months), so don't delete that message if you're someone that doesn't claim immediately. Of course, maps will still be going into the VTT Vault.

If it's not too much trouble, could you still remind us to claim stuff once a month, even if it's not a date when anything released? I don't hang out on DriveThruRPG, I only go there to grab the stuff you made, so I'm definitely going to miss something without a reminder of what I'm looking for.

If you decide to leave because of this - and I get it, I've done it because of the way platforms are run, too - you can still support the creator by buying their maps on DTRPG when they are released.

It sounds like you made the best choice you could to ensure that rewards are still delivered fairly and no one can "game the system" to get extra rewards without properly supporting you. I've been here since very early, if not the start, and will continue to support your work!

Especially as Patrons signing up via the Apple version app also have to pay an additional 30% fee to Apple. There's literally no benefit for Patrons or creators.

There's no way I'll keep up with multiple times a month. Zero concerns about the billing change. A bit shocked Patreon caved in. Just only support the one billing model on the Apple app, how hard is that?

2024-10-29 03:40:09 +0000 UTCUnderstand, and not upset. But absolutely not convenient. Now, instead of keeping track of 1 reward per month, I have to keep track of multiple messages and make sure I add them all to my DTRPG. This is going to be a pain. Thank you Apple! .
