Our first Kickstarter - Bastions Modular Tile Set

Hi everyone,

We're really excited to let you know that on 13th November we'll be launching our very first Kickstarter!

The new Dungeon Masters Guide includes exciting rules for creating custom bastions for your players, with characters picking from a selection of different rooms and facilities, and upgrading it over time.

We'll be creating a full set of modular tiles that covers each type of room (plus upgrades where appropriate). There'll also be corridors etc, plus a set of four pre-built bastions with external walls and landscapes, which depict the same bastion growing over time.

Of course, you don't have to use the tiles to create a 5E Bastion - you can use them to create any stronghold, adventurer's base, guildhall or similar.

We're really excited, and we hope you are too.

If you'd like to be notified of the launch, please visit our page here:

Hey Joe and Sarah, the intro for your Kickstarter reads "as described in the new 5E Dungeon Masters Guide". If I were you, I would change that to read "as described in the new D&D 2024 Dungeon Masters Guide. WotC can't make their mind up WHAT to call it (OneDnD, D&DNext, etc...); however, Roll20, DnDBeyond and others have taken to calling the new version "D&D 2024" and the old version "D&D 2014", to differentiate between the two. There was an early push to call the new version D&D 5.5, but apparently WotC has already started rolling back some of the butt-stupid rule changes, so it doesn't "feel" like a .5 version anymore. At any rate, it seems that the industry is likely going to name it D&D2024, which will probably get whittled down to DnD24 some day.. then WotC will need to trademark the name belatedly and claim it was their idea in the first place.

Yes, there'll be a full set of corridor and stair tiles

Heroic Maps

Is there going to be some hall way and stair pieces?

Raymond Walter

Actually they don't even need to fit together. As long as they can logically fit together if not actually.

SomethingWonderful

For me it will depend. I tend to like the modular sets that have much larger rooms that can fit together. I mean, let's face it, a dungeon is basically a series of encounters or "Rooms". So when I can use them that way it works great. Smaller rooms just don't make for interesting encounters. So I am tenatively interested, but the two preview rooms are pretty small.

SomethingWonderful

We need approximately 200 backers for it to fund. Not unachievable, we think

Heroic Maps

Is there a price set for this project? I am 100% following and backing this, but I am curious as to what the goal is.

Jimmy the Barkeep

Brilliant! Yes, it should be really useful for any game where you want to make a 'base' for your party

Heroic Maps

Oh yes, this will be perfect for Savage Worlds' Fantasy Companion strongholds.

So, they're built along the same way as the Geomorphs or the Modular Haunted Mansion - i.e. they sit fully within a square or rectangle, so no grid alignment issues. The size of the rooms is determined by the rules for the Bastions - so for example, a 'Roomy' space contains 12 squares. That's not huge, and so for some situations, like the book cases, they'll need to straddle grid lines in order to fit them in the room. We'll have to approach each room type as we get to them, but we'll keep that in mind.

Awesome comes to my mind 🤩🤩🤩

I am liking the idea, but I do have a question: how will the tiles line up with Roll20's grid? There have been a few sets where the edge of one tile doesn't sit flush with the next. This isn't a problem with your geomorphs, but pretty much anything modular like the Under Caves has this issue. Also is it possible for you to design the maps so that passable gaps are actually passable for a token? In the library tile there are a few spaces between the wall bookshelves and the freestanding ones where a character could pass through, but there's no room for a token to stand without standing on the bookshelf. This does make things difficult when determining what counts as cover or impassable terrain.

Awesome great idea

Can’t wait to support this!!

Great idea for a modular set!
