Our Bastion Kickstarter!

Hey everyone,

This is just a little reminder to check out our Bastion Kickstarter.  I'm scheduling this post as I'm off to a wargames show this weekend, but as of right now, it's super close to funding.

In case you haven't previously caught this, our Kickstarter is all about creating a set of modular tiles that let you build a stronghold. Inspired by the new Bastion rules in the Dungeon Master's Guide, we'll be covering all the room types they mention. We'll also be doing some prebuild castles and a set of generic backgrounds.

We've got some fun stretch goals in mind too

BASTION KICKSTARTER

It would be amazing if you could check it out, and maybe consider supporting us. It's super value, and will only get better if we unlock some stretch goals!

Thanks!

I'm not terribly shocked that they missed toilet facilities, people have been forgetting to include those on their maps for 30+ years. I agree 100%, though, there ought to be some sort of toilet solution, and probably some sort of remedial bathing facilities as well. A kitchen and/or dining area seems like a huge oversight in a bastion, as well as a root cellar/pantry, to withstand sieges. They would certainly (try to) have a well inside or build it adjacent to running water, as well. Another thing most people miss, is that most of these fortifications were built to protect local farmers and ranchers as well, so the majority of them had a livery and sleeping quarters for a handful of peasants. In FACT, the oldest fortifications were specifically built as fortified farmhouses, to house the animals with the family in one building. Various designs of course, but it's all terribly interesting. The very oldest baileys were simply farmhouses, built to protect livestock, not troops. Nobody had a reason to build a second story on a building before that, it was done to conserve the amount of firewood it would take to heat a place.. the body heat of the actual animals being taken in to consideration as well! How to solve the problem of missing rooms is a real chin-scratcher, because Joe's maps are so good, it would be terribly difficult to match his style and create them ourselves, without having assets made by him to create our own toilet/bathing/eating solutions. Perhaps that's the solution! Instead of creating a bathroom, kitchen, dining hall, etc, etc., Joe could give us some assets to add a well, horse trough, bathing-tub, dining table, sideboard, kitchen prep areas and a fire-pit and fireplace big enough to fit a spit or large cooking pot in. You know.. after I write that out, I'm not sure how much time that would save Joe, as opposed to just creating the whole room in the first place. I doubt I'll ever invest in the DnD2024 system, anyway. So far, their only point of interest is that they're intentionally leaking critical parts of CoS, just to ruin it for other people. CoS is basically the only campaign they make that I care for, so I'm not overly excited about supporting their efforts to sabotage it. The point being, I have no idea what other assets that their Bastion content might be missing, but I hope it's not too glaring. I AM tickled pink that Joe decided to cover it! There is a serious lack of maps/assets to create small fortifications. Most people jump from a guard shack / wizard tower to a full-blown castle with a curtain wall. So rooms from Joe to build our own minor fortifications is a real blessing!

I would like to humbly request that the Defensive Walls be moved up the list a notch. I think that those would be much more useful in the long run, than a few pre-generated maps. ;) Actually.. Maybe others would like the prebuilts more, but I'd rather have more base maps than prebuilts as well. :/

I don’t know the new 2024 rule set about bastions and roomtypes, but I am surprised (or perhaps not), that kitchens and toilets are not one of them? For me its essential, that any building for living quarters has these two rooms of some type.
