3 ways to do horror in D&D right (and 2 ways to do it wrong)

Listen, I'm not saying that I SHOULDN'T have spent 5 hours on this video edit, because I really do see that time paying off in the sound effects and color edits/graphics and stuff! But I AM saying that if I'd been a little bit lazier, I could've had time to play Baldur's Gate tonight, and that is the true tragedy.

Anyway here's tomorrow's video 😩 It uses the grasping mother!

Hey Nathan! I definitely agree that 3 lvl 2 PCs would get absolutely stomped by this monster. For the Grasping Mother and 2-4 minions, I'd probably wait until they're around level 5. I wouldn't have them encounter her in her lair until level 6.

Hitchcock said it in a more concise manner. Suspense is not having someone jump out at you. It's knowing someone is going to jump out and there's nothing you ca do about it.

This is such wonderful advice and I'll definitely apply it going forward! I love the idea of running this. I'm relatively new to the DM'ing thing and building appropriate encounters challenge wise. At the moment I have 3x level 2 PC which I suspect would not be able to take on an encounter like this. What level would you think a three person party would need to be, and how many Lost Children would you recommend be put with the Grasping Mother?
