You Meet in a Tavern β NPC Encounters
Added 2024-09-19 16:00:09 +0000 UTCThis one's for those moments when players enter a tavern and say "I look around. What other customers are in here?"
"You Meet in a Tavern" is a collection of five (well, technically six, but one is a duo!) NPCs that your players might encounter in a tavern or inn. Each character has some interactive element, from playing a game with you, to harboring a dangerous secret you might uncover. I like these as a way to fill, say, 30 minutes to an hour if your players are eager for a little tavern downtime roleplay.
This PDF is free for Di-votee Patrons and available for individual purchase for anybody else who wants to check it out!
One of the first supplementary PDFs I ever made was You Meet on the Road, which was a similar collection of encounters for travel. Are there any other common circumstances that would be helpful in your games? "You Meet in Jail," maybe, or "You Meet at the Market" or something? Let me know in the comments!

I just discovered your Patreon and am still digging in, but may I suggest "You Meet on the Open Sea?" My players are a pirate crew, and I'm running out of encounter ideas! π

2024-09-19 18:19:18 +0000 UTCReal talk, I love to give away free stuff, but right now I'm behind on the paid stuff π₯² I don't feel comfortable dedicating time to free downloads when my paying Patreons are still short a few PDFs!

2024-09-19 17:56:36 +0000 UTCWhile my "Courtly Characters" PDF doesn't have exactly the same kind of interactive encounters as these do, it does have quest hooks associated with each NPC!

2024-09-19 17:56:23 +0000 UTCMaybe Ginny could take her Courtly Characters and make one (or more) specific encounters for each of them. Same concept might be a cool follow up to Denizens of the Dark.

2024-09-19 17:46:13 +0000 UTCHow about "You Meet at Court." So people you'll run into while waiting for an audience with the King/Princeps/Grand Vizier/CEO. They may be minor functionaries looking for allies, merchants looking to expand trade, or petitioners with a grievance. And any of these could be enemy spies or the King's own agents. The trick would be keeping things generic enough that it can be flavored to the local political situation, while the individuals still have unique characteristics and flair.

2024-09-19 17:34:22 +0000 UTCI find these supplements excelent and have used some of every one now I think. You met at a festival might be a good future one!

2024-09-19 17:20:21 +0000 UTCA situation I find myself in regularly is trying to figure out who exactly catches the heroes if they fail a Stealth check while trying to sneak into a building, camp, or whatever. "The guards catch you," is serviceable, but it gets boring and repetitive pretty quickly (at least for my tastes). Accidentally bumping into two guards who snuck away from their posts to make out, now that's a little more interesting, and also provides a bit of tactical context for the encounter (the guards are surprised and do not have their weapons ready; they're also probably pretty embarrassed, which might give advantage on a Deception check to buffalo your way past them). So I'd love to see a collection of "You're Caught By" Oh! And there should be geese in it. Because apparently geese make fantastic watchdogs. Or watchbirds. Or whatever. Oh! Giant geese!
